2025-chapter-17

After leaving the gambling den, Tang Xin couldn’t wait to rush to see her new home. She had thought there would be a need for renovation and furniture purchases, but to her surprise, upon entering the house, she found it fully decorated with all the furniture in place, ready for immediate occupancy. The rooms were in the simple style that she liked.

Tang Xin immediately praised and felt that Boss Wang was truly a rare talent. In the future, if she had any similar needs, she could rely on him.

Yan Hao silently thought that Boss Wang probably wouldn’t thank you for praising him; he would prefer it if you forgot about his existence altogether.

Finally having a stable nest, Tang Xin was in high spirits and took Yan Hao out for a big shopping spree. Household items, clothing, and things she liked—Tang Xin bought them all, and Yan Hao followed behind, carrying bags big and small.

He wasn’t tired, but watching his master buy ten pieces of clothing, eight of which were black and the other two in dark colors, he couldn’t help but silently complain. What kind of aesthetic was this? Shouldn’t women buy colorful clothes?

However, when Tang Xin changed into the new clothes and stood in front of him, Yan Hao was left speechless, marveling at her beauty. Clearly dressed in all black, she exuded an air of elegance and competence.

“I’m done shopping. Take a look and see which clothes you like.” Tang Xin took the bags from Yan Hao proactively.

Yan Hao quickly stepped back two steps, saying in a deep voice, “I don’t need any.” That was close; he almost got touched. Always vigilant, he couldn’t afford to let his guard down.

Tang Xin was puzzled. “Our luggage hasn’t even been taken down, and you’re not buying clothes? What will you change into?”

“…”

Making sense, Yan Hao hesitated for a moment and compromised, “Buy black casual wear then.”

Stain-resistant and convenient for movement.

After he picked out the clothes, Tang Xin paid the bill. When she handed the bag of clothes to Yan Hao, he belatedly realized, Why were both of them dressed in black? Wasn’t that like buying a couple outfits? Although the master was supposed to cover meals, accommodation, and clothing, seeing her swipe the card still felt a bit embarrassing…

Tang Xin opened each bag and checked, “We’ve bought almost everything. Let’s go back after having dinner outside.”

Yan Hao frowned slightly. “Eating outside is not clean.”

In the past few days, when he was short on money, he either bought wild game or grilled it himself after hunting.

“I only know how to barbecue and make medicinal meals.” Tang Xin innocently looked at Yan Hao. “We’ve been eating barbecue for several days; we need to change the taste.”

She was interested in anything related to medicine, but she was lazy about things unrelated to it, resulting in a limited repertoire of dishes she could cook. Cooking medicinal meals for herself every day, she had gone through the cycle several times. Even if medicinal meals were good for the body, she was almost fed up with them.

“Let’s go,” Yan Hao sighed softly. “We’ll buy ingredients, and I’ll cook when we get back.”

A bodyguard who can cook!

Tang Xin looked at him with starry eyes and asked eagerly, “Can I order dishes?”

“Yeah, I can cook most dishes.” Yan Hao nodded lightly, feeling a mix of emotions.

When the master first learned that he was a B-grade gene and a Level 5 martial artist, she remained calm and indifferent, not paying much attention to him. Now that she knew he could cook, there was a hint of admiration in her eyes.

A Level 5 martial artist was not as good as a chef. Yan Hao couldn’t help but feel unjust for himself.

Tang Xin cheered and started listing dishes without pause: “Five-spice braised pig’s trotters, mouth-watering chicken, braised lotus root slices, roasted duck with sauce, cold-dressed golden needle mushrooms, steamed pork with rice flour, twice-cooked pork, stir-fried beef brisket, frozen lamb cake, pork jelly—anything is fine! I’m not picky!”

“…”

Yan Hao turned and walked towards the supermarket. The master looked like a foodie, and you couldn’t tell at all that she was a clever strategist in the gambling den. “Let’s first see what ingredients are available.”

Tang Xin followed closely, obediently trailing behind the chef, accompanying him on supermarket strolls. Occasionally disappearing and reappearing, she always seemed to have hidden ingredients in her pockets, secretly placing them in the shopping cart.

Yan Hao silently watched her. Did she think that the subtle moves of a Level 2 martial artist could escape the keen eyes of a Level 5 martial artist? He didn’t expose her and let her carry the ingredients.

When they finished shopping and returned home, Yan Hao couldn’t help but sigh. This feeling of both husband and wife taking care of the household chores was truly something.

The master’s experience in eroding opponents’ willpower was truly impressive.

Back in the house, Yan Hao placed the bags of clothes and miscellaneous items aside, carrying the bag of ingredients into the kitchen.

Tang Xin cheered and started listing dishes without stopping: “Five-spice braised pig’s trotters, mouth-watering chicken, braised lotus root slices, roasted duck with sauce, cold-dressed golden needle mushrooms, steamed pork with rice flour, twice-cooked pork, stir-fried beef brisket, frozen lamb cake, pork jelly—anything is fine! Back in the house, Yan Hao placed the bags of clothes and miscellaneous items aside, carrying the bag of ingredients into the kitchen.

Tang Xin followed him like a little tail, running to the kitchen behind Yan Hao.

Yan Hao felt a bit overwhelmed. Having a big person standing there watching him cook was quite uncomfortable. Suddenly, he didn’t know where to put his hands.

Tang Xin took two steps back, keeping a distance, leaning against the door. “I’ll just watch; I won’t say a word.”

Helpless, Yan Hao tried to forget the presence of the master, pretending the kitchen was his alone, and started preparing.

He first took out a black fish to clean. After cleaning it, he placed the fish on the cutting board, gripped the knife, and his eyes instantly changed.

Tang Xin couldn’t keep up with Yan Hao’s movements; she couldn’t see clearly. All she felt was a flash of the knife, and when the motion slowed down, the fish bones had already been separated, and pieces of fish meat were neatly cut and arranged on a clean plate.

“Wow!” Tang Xin suddenly realized how amazing a Level 5 martial artist was; just the skill of slicing fish was shocking.

“You said you’d just watch and not say anything, right?” Yan Hao’s mouth curled up. Well, she’s not talking; she’s just marveling.

His hands continued to move, adding cooking oil to the pot, stir-frying green peppers, then pouring in the fish slices and continuing to stir-fry. After a few minutes, he added his special seasoning, turned off the heat, and served the dish.

Yan Hao silently handed the stir-fried fish slices with green peppers to the master, hoping she would take them to the dining table.

However, Tang Xin stood still, holding the plate in one hand and casually picking up a piece of fish with the other. “Ah-woo,” she said, taking a bite. As she chewed, her eyes lit up. It was delicious!

The fish slices were tender, with the taste of green peppers blending in, perfectly suiting her taste.

After finishing one piece, Tang Xin picked up another. She didn’t treat herself like an outsider at all.

The master probably thought it was specially cooked for her, although Yan Hao actually intended for both of them to eat together. Yan Hao turned around and continued cooking.

Tang Xin secretly glanced at Yan Hao while eating.

She didn’t care about Level 5 martial artists, but when it came to a skilled chef, she felt quite reluctant to let him go. Should she think of a way to keep him?

Yan Hao was oblivious to the master’s little schemes and wholly focused on cooking.

The twice-cooked pork was slightly crispy and spicy, a bit oily but not greasy, perfect for a meal; the mouth-watering chicken was fragrant and sweet, paired with special seasonings; and the braised lotus root slices were crispy and flavorful.

Yan Hao plated the dishes, and when he turned around, he saw that only the green peppers were left on the plate of stir-fried fish slices…

Tang Xin was staring blankly at Yan Hao’s back, and when he suddenly turned around, she immediately pretended as if nothing had happened. She cleared her throat. “Done? Take the dishes out; it’s my turn to cook.”

Yan Hao hadn’t reacted yet, but Tang Xin pushed him out of the kitchen, leaving him both amused and exasperated.

He sat quietly on the dining chair, and not long after, Tang Xin came out holding a clay pot carefully.

Was this a return gift for his cooking? Yan Hao raised an eyebrow, his lips curling up. However, the next moment, Tang Xin opened the clay pot, and his lips quickly flattened. His eyes were full of accusation—are you kidding me?!

In the pot was a pile of dark, mysterious substances. I cooked a nice meal for you, and you’re trying to poison me?!

Tang Xin was pouring soup. Yan Hao speculated that the bowl might contain soup and food, but he couldn’t make out what it was. Anyway, black + black = a dark mess, indistinguishable between hers and his.

Yan Hao looked up in confusion. Could a person eat this stuff?

“Enough.” Tang Xin placed the bowl in front of Yan Hao and sat across from him, picking up the three other dishes. “If you eat this medicinal meal, you can’t eat anything else for an hour. Don’t worry; I’ll finish the other dishes.”

Was she really making this medicinal meal just to hog the other three dishes? Yan Hao had never seen a medicinal meal this black. Would eating it immediately warrant a trip to the hospital?

Yan Hao remained silent, gripping the spoon tightly in his hand. Summoning courage, he scooped up a black substance and attempted to put it in his mouth. He wanted to trust her once.

The first spoonful was like drinking medicine—no chewing, just swallowing. As the unknown substance went down, his body warmed slightly, and he felt a bit more relaxed.

Yan Hao looked at Tang Xin with a questioning gaze. She innocently met his eyes and said, “I won’t harm you.”

Hesitating, Yan Hao scooped up a second spoonful. He lightly touched the black liquid with the tip of his tongue, discovering that it tasted sweet. Carefully biting into the black substance, it had a good chewy texture and tasted quite decent. He relaxed.

Tang Xin chuckled. “Feeling relieved now? What I made is a nourishing medicinal meal that promotes recovery and is beneficial for your health. It helps eliminate chronic ailments and is good for the body.”

Yan Hao paused. “Eliminate chronic ailments?”

“Aren’t you injured on your right calf?” Tang Xin casually mentioned

He had never voluntarily talked about this. Yan Hao lowered his eyes.

Tang Xin smiled slyly. “You don’t say; I can see it myself. Not just your right calf; sometimes your left wrist feels uncomfortable too, right? You used to train excessively, causing muscle strain. Although it doesn’t affect much now, you’ll feel it when you get older. Drink up the medicinal meal, have it a few more times, and you’ll slowly recover. You won’t have to suffer when you’re old.”

Yan Hao remained silent, leisurely sipping the soup. In his mind, he kept reminding himself that it was a sugar-coated shell. Hold on!

Tang Xin puffed up her cheeks. She had the ability to heal him, so why wasn’t he rushing over, begging for her help? If he did, she would slightly resist, but she would definitely agree.

After all, his cooking was so delicious; she really wanted to keep him close.

As Yan Hao sipped the soup, he suddenly asked, “Regret letting me leave?”

It was a genuine question, and she did feel a bit regretful. During the negotiation, he didn’t mention anything about cooking! It was clearly a concealment, a deception!! However, she didn’t like forcing others, and even more, she disliked changing agreements after they were made.

“Even if I’m reluctant, I won’t break my promise.” Tang Xin looked at him eagerly. “Would you consider, after gaining freedom, cooking for me in exchange for my medicinal meals? Or how about becoming my personal chef? The benefits are absolutely top-notch!”

Yan Hao chuckled, admiring her principles. The coldness on his face faded away, replaced by a radiant smile.

Tang Xin got distracted, her hand suspended in the air, forgetting to bring the delicacy to her mouth.

Sensing her distraction, Yan Hao cleared his throat, regained seriousness, turned his face into ice, and lowered his head to continue sipping the soup.

Tang Xin snapped back to reality and pursed her lips, displeased. A little laughter wouldn’t hurt her appetite, and she might even be able to eat two extra bowls of rice.

Stingy.
