The Strange Incident of Miss Croitzer

Ethan abruptly pulled Alex, who was saying something outrageous, out of Rosa’s room and moved to a corner of the hallway, avoiding the gaze of the Croitzer family servants.

“Alex, what are you talking about? Weren’t you against her?” Ethan inquired.

“However, it’s a fact that I was escorting her. Therefore, I must take responsibility,” Alex pleaded with a troubled expression.

“Did Lord Croitzer say something to imply that?” Ethan furrowed his brow.

“Miss Croitzer has an unmarriageable mark somewhere,” the younger nephew replied, causing Ethan to look exasperated.

“I see… But in any case, it’s better to refrain from taking responsibility and marrying her. Speaking from the perspective of a bachelor like myself, such marriages often lead to unhappiness.”

“However, who would marry a young lady with a scar on her forehead?” Alex wondered.

“It’s fine. The Croitzer family can find plenty of suitors. With their power and surplus wealth, she should be able to choose a suitable gentleman to some extent. It’s not something for you to worry about,” Ethan asserted firmly.

“Even if you say that…”

Seeing Alex’s perplexed expression, Ethan sighed.

“You are a bit too serious.”

“That’s not true. Uncle, didn’t you notice anything strange about Miss Croitzer?”

Alex asked with a troubled expression.

“Well, isn’t she already like that?”

Rosa is a young lady who causes a lot of trouble, but Ethan isn’t really interested in Rosa.

“That’s right. Due to the blow to her head, her memory is confused. Just to be sure, I asked the servants around her, but it seems that she is quite different from before.”

Ethan answers calmly.”So… that’s true. I actually thought she might ask me to take responsibility in the opposite way,” Alex replied with a perplexed expression.

“Perhaps it’s because she just woke up, but for now, she obediently follows instructions and is a good patient,” Ethan added.

Even considering her current image, Ethan found it hard to believe.

However, he didn’t want to speculate without more information.

That’s because he didn’t know Rosa well enough.

“Obedient? Miss Croitzer?” Alex exclaimed with widened eyes.

“Yeah, as a patient, she’s exemplary. It seems she wants to recover quickly,” Ethan replied.

In fact, Rosa’s notoriety resounds in high society. In reality, Ethan has also received some suggestive looks a few times.

However, it’s not limited to Rosa alone; other women have faced similar situations, and it’s not as if she stands out in particular.

“Is there some ulterior motive with Miss Croitzer?” Alex still seems perplexed.

“In any case, she says there’s no need for someone to take responsibility. From her perspective, there’s no need for you to insist. There’s no need to say it explicitly,” Ethan stated.

“No, without sincerity, it’s not right,” Alex said, wearing a sincere expression.

“You’re still as earnest as ever. For now, there seems to be no problem with her. The recovery from the injury is progressing smoothly,” Ethan persuaded Alex and sent him back to the castle.

◇◇◇

Meanwhile, Rosa was relaxing in the room after the two had left.

“Miss, I have brought tea for you.”

Helena entered the room, pushing a wagon with light snacks and tea. Rosa was feeling a bit thirsty.

As always, Helena was efficient at her work. In her previous life in Japan, she might have been on the fast track for promotion.

“Miss, is it good that you refused the prince’s proposal?”

Helena asked straightforwardly, looking very curious. It was something unusual. Lately, Helena has become quite friendly with Rosa.

“Oh, that? It’s fine. Taking responsibility and getting married is not a good thing. Such marriages usually don’t end well.”

To Rosa’s casual remark, Helena showed a surprised expression.

“Um… Miss, how old are you now?”

“I’m seventeen. Oh, you forgot how old your master is.”

Rosa, once again, felt the freshness of her youth.

(Being young is wonderful! My skin is smooth and shiny too.)

“No, my lady, my master is not the young lady but the master.”

Helena said it decisively, and Rosa looked into the distance.

“Hmm, you won’t get far with that attitude.”

Rosa’s words made Helena look puzzled. Because in the world of maids, there were only seniors and juniors. And Helena, being a commoner, would not rise much higher and would at best become a veteran.

“I’m fine as long as I can work healthily.”

Helena replied, and Rosa nodded.

“That’s right. Human health is the most important. Besides, everything depends on being alive.”

Rosa’s words surprised Helena again.

“Miss, you’ve changed recently. Saying things that make you sound much older.”

She inadvertently made a somewhat rude comment.

“Well, I almost died once. Anyway, let’s get along well from now on. I might not get married, you know.”

“Eh? Is that not a problem, my lady?”

Helena asked in surprise.

“It’s not a problem. I realized that. Gentlemen who approach me are all after my fortune. It would be a disaster to marry such a person, only to have them take away my wealth and then be killed as soon as they deem me useless.”

Rosa sipped the hot tea that Helena had brewed.

In response to Rosa’s transformation, Helena blinked her eyes in astonishment.
