Chapter 20: Hausen Family (2)

“Will that cure her?”

Daisy asked the doctor with a visibly shocked expression.

“I recommend undergoing magical control training while taking suppressants.”

Maggie furrowed her brows tightly at the doctor’s words.

“Training now? And I don’t want to take suppressants either.”

“If you don’t undergo training, it might get worse,” Daisy admonished Maggie, who was complaining.

“Does she have to keep taking that medicine?”

Donovan asked with a worried expression. Not only was Maggie a concern, but suppressants were also expensive.

“Yes, it depends on the magical control training. Or if she ages and her magical power decreases, she might be able to stop.”

“What? Is it that severe?”

“Do we have to keep taking medicine?”

The Hausen couple exclaimed in unison.

In other words, Maggie’s future prospects for marriage looked grim. It’s unlikely that a family would willingly take in a daughter with expensive medical needs.

“No way. Even though I’m not feeling well, continuing to take medicine and undergoing training is too much. Just getting up is a struggle. I feel nauseous, and I might as well give my magical power to Fiene.”

“What are you saying? If you keep talking like that, you won’t get better, right?”

When Donovan tried to console her, Maggie pouted like a child. She didn’t fully comprehend the seriousness of the situation.

At that moment, Wymain spoke up.

“How is Miss Fiene doing? It’s been over two months since I handed her the potion. Is she resting somewhere with fresh air?”

The parents, who had been completely absorbed in Maggie, remembered their second daughter.

“Well, there’s been no news, so I think her lung disease might be improving,” Donovan replied.

“Yes, that girl. She hasn’t sent a single letter. I wonder what’s happening with her engagement. Although there was a promise of financial support from Noah, we haven’t received any updates since then.”

Immediately after that, Maggie became ill, so the couple had to take care of her.

“Engagement? Moreover, there is no news. Excuse me, have you confirmed the safety of the young lady?”

Warmane asked in shock, bombarding them with questions.

“What? Safety confirmation? I heard Fiene’s lung disease is mild. Or do you believe in the Duke’s bad rumors?”

Donovan found it strange why a doctor would ask such a question. He had heard about Fiene’s lung issues, but both Rolf and Muge had said it wasn’t a big deal.

“Lung disease? While the symptoms have spread to her lungs, she’s in the final stages of magical depletion.”

“Lies! Fiene doesn’t have any magical power!”

Daisy exclaimed in surprise, wide-eyed.

“Haven’t you heard anything from the young lady? I told both parents to come together, but…”

The doctor’s eyes showed a hint of contempt, but Donovan and Daisy were too shocked to focus on this unfamiliar story.

“So, did that girl, Fiene, have magical power?”

“Is that the first thing you’re concerned about? Your young lady is in the final stages of magical depletion! I suggested searching for treatment methods in other countries, but your son and daughter just took her home with a large quantity of potions. You do know Miss Fiene has only six months left, right?”

Suspicion colored Wymain’s eyes.

“What did you say!”

“Is that true?”

The couple stood up in astonishment.

“No way! Fiene is going to die?”

Maggie exclaimed in surprise.

“I recommend immediately confirming the young lady’s safety.”

No one in the Hausen family noticed the contemptuous tone in the doctor’s expression and words.

Unaware of everything, Rolf and Muge, who had been flying around tea parties and evening gatherings under the guise of socializing to find suitable matches, returned home late at night to find their parents waiting.

The salon was shrouded in a heavy atmosphere.

“Why did you keep quiet about Fiene’s remaining time!”

Donovan, who was usually indulgent with the two, trembled with anger tonight. Although Muge and Rolf were taken aback, they quickly composed themselves.

“That’s what Fiene said. She didn’t want to worry Father and Mother, so she wanted to go in my place. That girl wanted to get married because it was hopeless without magical power. And she wanted to die before being exposed by that eccentric mage. Did you see? She even dyed her hair.”

Muge concocted a self-serving lie.

“What are you talking about? Fiene is beautiful at least. She could have found a suitor in a lower-ranking noble family or a merchant’s house.”

In response to Donovan’s words, Muge made a dissatisfied face.

“That girl is going to die soon, and I don’t think there’s any suitor. At most, a lover, right? Besides, Fiene and I are not alike, and her hair color is—”

Muge stopped mid-sentence.

The parents’ expressions changed.

Muge had spoken about something that should never be touched upon in this household.
