Chapter 109
“Eat some vegetables. Here, have this.”
When Su Hua returned home, her mother immediately started serving her food, piling her plate with dishes.
“Look at you, you’ve lost so much weight.”
Gu Mingquan, sitting at the head of the table, ate his meal silently.
Seeing his indifference, mother Gu urged, “Serve some food to your daughter instead of just eating by yourself.”
With a slight nudge from his wife, Gu Mingquan reluctantly picked up a piece of meat and placed it on Su Hua’s plate.
“Eat more meat. Girls shouldn’t be dieting all the time. Looking like a stick is unattractive.”
As soon as Gu Mingquan finished speaking, mother Gu shot him a glare. It was fine to serve meat, but there was no need for the extra commentary.
“Don’t mind your father,” Mother Gu quickly tried to smooth things over, worried that Su Hua might get upset.
Su Hua picked up the meat and smiled, “Thanks, Dad. I won’t diet anymore.”
Both parents were taken aback by her response, their eyes reddening slightly.
Gu Mingquan awkwardly cleared his throat and added, “No need to thank me; I’m your father, after all.”
“Yeah, Dad’s the best.”
Feeling uncomfortable under Su Hua’s warm gaze, Gu Mingquan turned his head slightly.
It’s so good that my daughter has changed for the better.
Mother Gu, touched by the warmth between father and daughter, nearly shed tears. It had been so long since the family had sat down for a peaceful meal together, not even during the New Year.
After dinner, Gu Mingquan called Su Hua into his study.
“If you’re so determined to enter the entertainment industry, I won’t stop you. I won’t interfere with who you like either. But I hope you respect yourself and don’t do what you did before.”
Su Hua knew he was referring to the time the original Gu Hua drugged Lu Yunche.
It was a pity for the original Gu’s parents. They had always been kind to her, but she never appreciated it. In the end, the family’s vast wealth was swindled away by the female lead, leaving them destitute.
“I understand, Dad,” Su Hua nodded seriously.
“Actually, the experience of filming this time has made me realize that without power, influence, or connections, it’s really hard to survive in the entertainment industry. I’m suddenly thinking that maybe being in a leadership role would be better.”
Gu Mingquan looked at her skeptically, “What scheme are you plotting now?”
“Dad, doesn’t the company own Xingquan Entertainment? I want to join them.”
“It’s just an entertainment company. I’ll let you have it, but you must make some achievements. Otherwise, when you take over Gu Corporation in the future, the old guys there will definitely protest.”
Su Hua agreed earnestly, assuring him that she would work hard.
Feeling reassured, Gu Mingquan thought to himself that even if Xingquan went bankrupt, it wouldn’t matter; he could cover it.
After staying at home for a few days, Su Hua convinced her parents that she was genuinely turning over a new leaf. She then asked to move back out but promised to return for family dinners on weekends.
“Host, with your abilities, you don’t need to go through all this.”
“You heartless system, do you even understand what family affection means?”
“Of course, I do.” Though, does the host really?
The De’er suddenly recalled the first world, where Su Hua also went out of her way to care for the original owner’s mother.
Su Hua stepped outside, where Ah Zhou had already prepared the car, dutifully opening the door for her before scurrying to the driver’s seat.
“Did you take care of everything?”
“Yes, everything’s ready. The house is cleaned and ready for you to move in,” Ah Zhou replied while driving.
“Good. And don’t tell my dad who lives next door.”
“Understood, Miss.”
The car drove further and further into the residential area until they turned left into a small community.
Su Hua took out her house keys and said, “Give me the car keys. You can take a taxi back.”
Ah Zhou looked at Su Hua who was driving away, his face filled with sadness.
“Miss, I won’t let you abandon me like this.”
The place Su Hua had moved into was, of course, where Lu Yunche lived, and she had cunningly chosen to live right next door to him.
As she rode the elevator up, her mind began to wander.
“Ding.”
The elevator doors opened.
When they saw each other, both were momentarily stunned.
Lu Yunche was the first to recover.
“Gu Hua! What are you doing here?”
He regretted his question immediately; he should have pretended not to recognize her and just ignored her.
Su Hua blinked, a hint of admiration in her eyes.
It was October in the capital, and the weather was cool. He was wearing a light khaki sweater and black casual pants that made his long legs look even longer and straighter.
His features were so exquisite they seemed like a work of art.
His thin lips were pressed together, and his bright eyes showed a mix of shock, surprise, and a bit of disgust.
These emotions only added to his charm, making him seem more real rather than just a figure from a painting.
Lu Yunche was truly handsome.
Even though Su Hua had seen his photos before, she was still captivated.
Seeing that she wasn’t responding, Lu Yunche said nothing more, walking out of the elevator and brushing past her.
But as he did, she grabbed his arm.
“Let go,” he snapped, shaking off her hand.
If there had been only a little disgust before, now it was overwhelming.
Su Hua quickly raised three fingers as if making a vow, “I didn’t follow you here! I just recently returned to the country, and my subordinates arranged this apartment for me.”
Lu Yunche gave her a long, hard look before turning away and walking off without another word.
Feeling frustrated, Su Hua got into the elevator and began venting in her mind.
“It’s all your fault! Just from brushing against his arm, he reacted like that. How am I supposed to kiss, hug, or anything else in the future?”
The De’er remained silent while Su Hua continued to swoon internally.
“But this boss is so handsome! Even I, who am used to beauty, was captivated. Ah, what should I do? My heart is beating so fast; I can hardly breathe…”
The De’er, overwhelmed by Su Hua’s inner drama, couldn’t help but think of the phrase, “mentally retarded children are more joyful.”
This building had one apartment per floor. Su Hua glanced at the tightly shut door of 701 before entering 702.
If Lu Yunche knew she was living next door, he’d definitely be suspicious, though it wasn’t entirely unwarranted.
After tossing her clothes on the table, Su Hua flopped onto the sofa and started browsing Weibo.
“Chu Tianhao’s little sweetheart? What the heck is that?”
She quickly changed her Weibo username and then checked her feed, which was filled with retweets of Chu Tianhao’s posts or news about him.
After deleting everything, Su Hua unfollowed everyone except for Lu Yunche.
Finally, she felt calm enough to read through Lu Yunche’s Weibo.
His latest post was from last month, promoting a new store for a fashion brand. The comments were over ten thousand, but most were filled with hate.
“Why is this person still around? Get out of the entertainment industry!”
“Just die already, you’re a waste of good looks.”
“I’m never buying this brand again.”
“A scum of the entertainment industry. Trash.”
“Get out of showbiz.”
“Why aren’t you dead yet?”
