Thriving after the Moon Falls (I Can’t Possibly Take Pity On A Demon) - Chapter 47
Chapter 47
Other demons were only bound by a single black iron chain, but this one had thirty-two chains wrapped around him, making it clear at a glance that he was extremely dangerous.
Liu Shuang didn’t dare to underestimate him just because he looked young. She asked, “Senior, are you the Night Demon Luo?”
The young man lazily raised his head to look at her, then chuckled softly, “Night Demon Luo?”
“Are you not?” she asked. If not, why would he be on the 35th floor?
The young man moved his shackled wrists and gave her a pure, innocent smile.
“I’m not called Night Demon Luo. That name sounds terrible. My name is Ye Li. And you? What’s your name? I’ve never seen you in the Demon Suppressing Tower before.”
“Liu Shuang, my name is Liu Shuang,” she replied, cautiously omitting her surname. Although the young man appeared pale and frail, he was undoubtedly the Night Demon Luo, though he seemed to dislike being addressed as such.
The young man seemed quite pleased. He tilted his head and asked, “No one comes here. Why did you come?”
Liu Shuang said, “I wanted to ask you something, Senior.”
The young man interrupted her, “Ye Li.”
“Ye Li,” Liu Shuang obliged. “Do you know where the fifth ancient spiritual vein is now?”
He smiled, his silver eyes gleaming with a hint of mischief. “Oh dear, the fifth spiritual vein? I’ve been asleep for so long, I’ve forgotten.”
Liu Shuang sat down cross-legged, knowing full well that he was likely lying, but she remained patient. “Then I’ll wait for you to remember.”
She hadn’t expected to get the answer about the spiritual vein right away.
Ye Li nodded sincerely.
“I’ve been trapped here for too long, drifting in and out of sleep. The world has changed so much, and my memories have grown fainter with each passing day. If I remember, I’ll definitely tell you.”
Liu Shuang didn’t believe him for a second.
She had memories from her past life and remembered how foolishly she had been deceived by Lord Su Lun.
She knew that most demons were cunning and deceitful, and that their words could hardly be trusted.
Unwilling to waste her days idly in the Demon Suppressing Tower, Liu Shuang closed her eyes and began to cultivate.
Ye Li glanced at her, then closed his eyes and drifted back to sleep.
Unbeknownst to Liu Shuang, the demons in the Demon Suppressing Tower were buzzing with excitement.
They had been trapped here for tens of thousands of years and had developed their own ways of surviving.
Though bound by black iron chains and suppressed by the ancient formations in the tower, they could still communicate with each other in secret, something the tower’s guardians were unaware of.
And so, the gossip began—
“She actually went to where Night Demon Luo is.”
“What will Night Demon Luo do to her? The snake demons can’t stand women, especially one as beautiful as her.”
“Night Demon Luo has been abstinent for tens of thousands of years. He probably won’t let her go easily. I wonder if she’ll make it out of the tower alive.”
The demons grew more and more excited.
Life in the tower was monotonous, and Liu Shuang’s arrival was like a stone thrown into a calm lake, creating ripples that stirred up the demons in the tower.
At that moment, a lazy voice chuckled, “You’re all very curious, aren’t you?”
“Of course we are,” a flower demon replied before realizing something was wrong.
Someone’s face slowly turned pale.
“Ye… Ye Li.”
Ye Li said, “Keep talking. Don’t mind me.”
But no one dared to speak.
They were all terrified.
The demons had been communicating in secret, and no one had been reckless enough to include Night Demon Luo in their conversations. But now, his sudden interjection sent chills down their spines.
They realized that even though he had lost his demonic powers and couldn’t cultivate in the tower, as an ancient demon who had lived as long as the heavens and earth, as long as his physical body remained, he could still do many things.
Not to mention, he still had those silver eyes.
Back then, all the immortals had tried to destroy his eyes. He had only smiled and complained that it hurt, but no matter what they did, they couldn’t destroy his eyes, just as they couldn’t destroy his physical body.
For tens of thousands of years, Night Demon Luo had mostly been asleep. But now that he was awake, he was actually listening to their gossip with interest. Even though he said not to mind him, the other demons were on edge. They still remembered what had happened in the first hundred years after being imprisoned in the tower. One demon had thought Night Demon Luo was powerless and had openly insulted him.
Night Demon Luo hadn’t reacted at first, but later, for some reason, that demon’s body had rotted away, turning into a pool of pus.
The snake demons were known for their pettiness.
Night Demon Luo had been asleep for so long, and the tower had been peaceful, so everyone had assumed he was still asleep. But now, they realized he was awake. The lingering aura of an ancient demon was enough to silence the entire tower.
Only the young man’s cold voice broke the silence.
“How boring.”
Liu Shuang was completely unaware of the undercurrents among the demons in the tower. She spent two days cultivating, occasionally chatting with Ye Li.
He had a pleasant temperament and never disturbed her while she was cultivating. In fact, he even gave her some advice.
“Let your spiritual energy rise, circulate it through your body, focus your mind, and you’ll achieve twice the result with half the effort.”
Following his method, her cultivation speed indeed increased.
As they grew more familiar, he occasionally asked her questions, such as, “Why do you have the scent of demon blood on you?”
The question was strange. Liu Shuang sniffed her sleeve, but all she could smell was the faint fragrance of begonia flowers.
Ye Li chuckled softly. “It’s just a trace of blood from the past. You can’t smell it. Can you tell me whose blood it is? Do you also enjoy killing demons?”
Liu Shuang shook her head.
“Perhaps… it’s the blood of an ally.”
She thought back carefully. The only demons she had interacted with were the Red Python and Yan Chaosheng.
She hadn’t killed the Red Python, so it couldn’t be his blood. Yan Chaosheng had been injured in the Ghost King’s Tomb, so perhaps it was his blood.
“An ally, huh?” Ye Li blinked.
“This is the first time I’ve heard of an immortal considering a demon an ally.”
“What about you?” Liu Shuang pointed to her own eyes.
“Why are your eyes silver?”
She had read in the “Ancient Mountains and Seas Chronicles” and the “Records of Strange Beasts” that most demons had brown, black, or, if they were extremely evil, blood-red eyes.
Silver eyes, on the other hand, looked as pure and holy as spring water, similar to the faint golden hue in the eyes of ancient gods.
In the demon clan, silver eyes were likely a sign of great nobility.
Ye Li said, “The descendants of the ancient demon emperors had silver eyes.”
“Are you a descendant of an emperor?”
“No, I just happened to receive the emperor’s grace by chance.”
Ye Li glanced at her and smiled.
“The descendants of the ancient demon emperors… have long since perished.”
Liu Shuang felt something was off. She remembered when she had first awakened in the original host’s body and was punished in the Nine Thoughts Pool.
In the darkness, she had seen Yan Chaosheng.
At that time, his eyes had seemed to glow with a faint silver light, but later, when she looked again, they were pitch black. She wasn’t sure if she had misremembered.
“Can silver eyes be hidden?”
Ye Li was momentarily stunned, then his eyes sparkled as he firmly replied, “No.”
Except for him.
Liu Shuang breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed she must have been mistaken that day. Yan Chaosheng had probably used some technique to see in the dark. If Yan Chaosheng were a descendant of an ancient demon emperor, she would have noticed in her past life. Historical records also stated that Xiangliu had never married or had children.
The two of them coexisted peacefully for several more days.
Liu Shuang counted the days and realized it had been almost a month, yet she still hadn’t gotten any information about the fifth spiritual vein.
When Ye Li was awake, he was quiet, and when he slept, his head drooped, his ink-black hair hanging in the air, looking pitiful.
He occasionally remembered bits and pieces of things and warned her, “Don’t go to the 32nd floor. There’s a lust demon there. Even though he’s imprisoned, if you enter his line of sight, he can infect you with a love poison.”
“Don’t go to the 34th floor either. There’s a demon there who can read minds and is very good at deceiving people.”
“And the 19th floor has a demon who loves to pull out his own organs. It would scare you.”
She took note of his warnings and nodded obediently.
Night Demon Luo seemed pleased.
A few days later, he seemed to be in a good mood. In the morning, he asked, “I haven’t seen anything outside the tower for a long time. Could you pick a flower for me?”
His silver eyes were as clear as spring water, and his body was pierced by chains, covered in bloody holes. This small request seemed harmless, so Liu Shuang agreed.
“Alright, wait a moment.”
She closed off her senses and walked to the base of the tower. Without leaving the Demon Suppressing Tower, she used her spell to pick a few flowers that had just bloomed at dawn.
Outside the tower, a light rain began to fall.
Liu Shuang returned to the 35th floor with the flowers and showed them to him.
“I picked these for you.”
Ye Li smiled, his eyes sparkling with delight. “Thank you. I like you very much. It’s a pity…”
The flowers in Liu Shuang’s hands turned to dust and merged into his silver eyes. In the next moment, Liu Shuang felt a sharp pain in her mind, as if something was being forcibly torn from her body. Night Demon Luo was trying to possess her. She finally realized how terrifying Night Demon Luo was. With just the power of a few blooming flowers, he could use his silver eyes to possess someone and escape the Demon Suppressing Tower.
She had never dared to get close to him before, but now, her body was out of her control. Under the gaze of those silver eyes, she floated toward him.
The young man smiled innocently and tilted his head to look at her.
She clenched her teeth, trying to resist, but it was difficult. She floated uncontrollably toward him until they were face to face.
“Don’t look at me like that. It hurts my feelings,” Ye Li said with a soft chuckle. He leaned down and gently kissed her cheek. “Don’t be afraid. It won’t hurt.”
Liu Shuang’s eyes began to lose focus. Ye Li stretched comfortably, watching as Liu Shuang drifted closer to his embrace. He was about to possess her body and escape the Demon Suppressing Tower.
But just as he was about to succeed, the girl suddenly raised her hand and slapped him across the face.
Ye Li’s head snapped to the side, and the girl spun away, landing on the ground.
She looked up at him, and Ye Li’s expression turned cold.
“The Fuxi Seal?” It was an ancient divine artifact, the seal of his former master.
Liu Shuang, furious that she had almost been possessed, gritted her teeth and said, “I forgot to tell you. My name is Liu Shuang, of the Chishui clan.”
“A descendant of the Chishui clan,” Ye Li said coldly.
“No wonder.”
“Senior, are you done pretending?”
Ye Li smiled.
“No, you’re mistaken. My kindness toward you was genuine. After all, I needed a body, and I didn’t want to hurt you.”
“And now? Do you still want it?”
“Yes,” Ye Li said softly. He lowered his silver eyes, a smile playing on his lips.
“You came prepared, so I can’t possess you. But there are still things I can do, even while trapped.”
Liu Shuang had a bad feeling.
Ye Li licked his lips, his expression becoming seductive.
“Didn’t I tell you? On the 32nd floor, there’s a demon who specializes in love poison.”
In the darkness, his clear eyes took on a sinister glow.
Liu Shuang took a step back, feeling something was wrong with her body.
Ye Li said, “Since Chishui sent his daughter here, let me enjoy her. Those hypocritical immortals have underestimated the ancient demons for too long.”
Liu Shuang turned and ran for the door, but before she could reach it, her legs gave out, and a wave of heat surged through her body.
A shimmering silver tail lazily wrapped around her waist and pulled her back.
The young man, who had once seemed frail and harmless, now had the lower body of a snake. His upper body remained human, much like Bi Xun from before.
The love poison spread through Liu Shuang’s body. The demons, who had been quiet for tens of thousands of years, had been biding their time under Night Demon Luo’s control. Even Chishui Chong had underestimated these ancient demons, forgetting that they had once possessed earth-shaking powers before the world was even formed.
The snake tail tightened around the girl’s waist, slowly undoing her clothes.
The power of the Fuxi Seal could protect her body and soul, but it couldn’t resist the love poison.
Even if Chishui Chong were here today, there would be no way to break the poison.
Liu Shuang struggled to stay conscious, but her mind was fading. Her clothes slipped off, and a cold voice sighed in her ear, “Why resist? It’s pointless.”
The girl’s cheeks were flushed, and the corners of her eyes had turned a delicate peach color. She hung limply in his grasp, her shoulders as white as jade.
Night Demon Luo’s silver eyes darkened as his demonic nature slowly awakened. He had to admit, this immortal from the Chishui clan was a rare beauty. Even in ancient times, when beauties were abundant, she would have stood out.
Even if he couldn’t possess her body, enjoying her would still be worth it.
But just as he was about to remove her last piece of clothing, the Demon Suppressing Tower suddenly grew noisy.
A mist demon said, “Night Demon Luo, someone… no, a demon has broken into the tower.”
Night Demon Luo raised an eyebrow.
“Oh?”
The mist demon could sense everything around it. “The immortals are trying to stop him, but they can’t.” The mist demon sounded horrified.
“He…”
Night Demon Luo interrupted coldly, “Where is he now?”
“He’s moving upward, still going up… He’s reached the 32nd floor.”
Night Demon Luo sighed.
“What a pity.”
Sure enough, the next moment, a massive figure appeared outside the 35th floor.
It blocked out all the sunlight—a colossal black snake, several feet long, with wings on its cheeks and sharp fangs. Its snake eyes were even colder than Night Demon Luo’s.
Night Demon Luo smiled faintly. “You’ve been guarding her outside for days, and now you’ve forced your way in here. The Demon Suppressing Tower traps demons. You might never get out. Your Highness, it must hurt. Do you still have your sanity? I’ve prepared a gift for you, Your Highness. I’m sure you’ll like it.”
With that, he released Liu Shuang, and she fell from the air.
The black snake caught her with its tail. The snake was in terrible condition, its scales bleeding from forcing its true form. Its eyes were icy as it hissed.
Ye Li said, “I haven’t done anything yet. There’s no need to settle accounts with me now. But her…”
Ye Li continued, “She seems to be in a lot of pain, Your Highness. Are you sure you want to do this here? I don’t mind watching.”
The black snake’s eyes were so cold they seemed to freeze. Without a word, it carried Liu Shuang away.
Ye Li watched it leave, deep in thought.
“So angry, yet still refusing to speak, afraid she’ll recognize you later? The descendant of Xiangliu, so pure in his youth?”
But it didn’t matter. He would be forced to change.
