I Want to Be Your Mrs. Jiang - Chapter 16
Chapter 16
As soon as Su Xiaomi uttered those words, Jiang Yi felt all eyes in the vicinity instantly snap toward him, then converge like raindrops merging into rivers and lakes—all focusing on a certain part of his body…
Even though Jiang Yi had always considered himself fairly worldly, this bizarre scene still made the corner of his mouth twitch violently.
Unbelievable.
Absolutely unbelievable.
He truly never could have dreamed that Su Xiaomi would come up with such an outlandish and razor-sharp excuse to reject someone.
It left him rooted to the spot, utterly at a loss for how to react appropriately.
Fortunately, his face had always been notoriously expressionless, especially around strangers—his default look was no look at all.
So, most people couldn’t glean any emotion from his expression.
Of course, if anyone had taken a closer look at his striking peach-blossom eyes at that moment, they would’ve noticed a cataclysmic storm brewing within.
The girl who had approached Jiang Yi was also stunned speechless by Su Xiaomi’s words.
She stood there dumbfounded, unable to muster a retort.
Seeing the girl’s thoroughly crushed demeanor, Su Xiaomi felt a twinge of guilt but couldn’t resist adding another slow, deliberate stab: “Don’t take it too hard. It’s not you—really, your figure is quite nice. It’s just that our President Jiang doesn’t like your type, the flat-chested, domineering ‘one-horse plains’ kind. He prefers… you know, the cutesy, big-chested loli type…”
Before she could even finish the last few words, Jiang Yi had already grabbed her by the collar and hauled her out of the gym.
And he literally hauled her—like a kitten or puppy.
Su Xiaomi felt her feet barely touch the ground before she was outside.
She hadn’t realized the height difference between them was so drastic before.
She was 163 cm, after all!
Once steady, she stole a glance back inside the gym.
The girl was still standing there like a statue, probably still piecing together her shattered self-esteem and worldview…
But Su Xiaomi soon stopped worrying about others.
Because she belatedly noticed Jiang Yi’s expression had darkened considerably at some point.
She silently took a step back.
Then another.
Until her heels hit the steps behind her.
Twisting her fingers nervously, she stammered, “…You were the one who asked me to help you…”
Jiang Yi looked down at her, his Adam’s apple bobbing.
Though he didn’t say a word, his eyes screamed, “So, according to you, this is my fault?”
Su Xiaomi didn’t dare nod under Jiang Yi’s predatory gaze.
Instead, she looked up at the sky, then sneaked a peek at him.
Peeked at him again, then looked back at the sky…
Fine. Calm down. Don’t lose your temper. Worst case, I just won’t come to this gym for the next month.
Damn it, since when did I say I like big-chested lolis?!
Jiang Yi took a deep breath, repeatedly telling himself to stay calm, and finally suppressed the inexplicable irritation in his chest.
Just as he was about to leave this mess behind and settle the score with Su Xiaomi later, she mustered her courage and asked, “President Jiang, do you have any plans later? If not… let me treat you to a drink!”
Jiang Yi felt like he could barely keep up with her mental leaps.
“…A drink?”
Su Xiaomi nodded, her brain scrambling for a plausible reason.
But the more urgent the moment, the blanker her mind became.
So, she just answered honestly, “No special reason. I just suddenly feel like drinking. I don’t have many friends in Songcheng… So, is that okay?”
Jiang Yi neither agreed nor refused.
“Where do you want to go?”
That was a question Su Xiaomi hadn’t considered.
She glanced at the row of shops across the street—clay pot restaurants, Lanzhou noodle joints, braised chicken rice places… None seemed suitable for drinking.
Before she could agonize further, Jiang Yi cut in, “Come on. I’ll take you somewhere.”
If it had been any other man, Su Xiaomi wouldn’t have followed so readily.
But this was Jiang Yi .
So, without a second’s hesitation, she trotted after him.
They walked until they entered an upscale residential complex.
Only when they stopped at Unit 1206 did Su Xiaomi belatedly realize… this seemed to be Jiang Yi’s home.
His next move confirmed her suspicion.
He pulled out a key card, swiped it, and strode inside without a backward glance.
This time, Su Xiaomi hesitated at the doorway for a few seconds before stepping in.
The door automatically closed behind her, plunging the apartment into silence.
She stood frozen, her limbs stiff with nerves.
This is Jiang Yi’s home. I’m actually inside Jiang Yi’s home. Who would believe this if I told them?
This wasn’t even a scenario she’d dreamed of.
It was too surreal—so surreal it felt unreal.
Only when Jiang Yi’s voice called out, asking what she wanted to drink, did she snap back to reality and blurt, “Anything’s fine.”
Jiang Yi soon returned with several cans of beer.
Seeing her still rooted by the door, he frowned.
“Weren’t you the one who wanted a drink? Come here. Why are you just standing there?”
Su Xiaomi hurried over and perched on the sofa beside him, sitting so properly she looked like a schoolgirl facing a stern principal.
Watching her like this, Jiang Yi inexplicably felt like he was coaxing an underage girl—a ridiculous notion.
Lowering his gaze, he popped open a beer and slid it across the glass coffee table toward her.
Su Xiaomi fumbled to catch it, then cradled it in her hands, taking small sips.
The beer, fresh from the fridge, was crisp and cool.
It wasn’t exactly delicious, but it was exactly what she needed right now, so she drank quickly.
Jiang Yi wasn’t sure about her alcohol tolerance, but since he’d seen her drink beer outside the supermarket before, he figured a few cans wouldn’t hurt.
So, he left her to it, cracking open three or four more for himself before plopping down on the carpet beside the sofa.
He sipped his beer and grabbed the remote to turn on the TV.
The two drank quietly, the TV murmuring in the background.
At one point, Jiang Yi’s phone rang.
Holding up a finger to Su Xiaomi, he took his beer and stepped onto the balcony to answer.
By the time he returned, he found four empty beer cans lined up on the table.
In that short time, Su Xiaomi had downed four beers?!
Jiang Yi immediately scrutinized her.
Thankfully, aside from slightly flushed cheeks, she seemed sober enough.
She even grinned at him and asked, “Got any more? I want another couple.”
Jiang Yi eyed her skeptically.
“…You sure you can handle it? If you puke here, I will throw you out.”
Su Xiaomi blinked innocently.
“Relax, I have an iron liver. A thousand cups won’t faze me.”
Jiang Yi was doubtful but still retrieved the last two cans from the fridge.
As he crouched by the table to open one for her—
Su Xiaomi pounced, slamming him onto the carpet.
The impact was so sudden and forceful that even with the carpet cushioning him, Jiang Yi heard his head thud against the floor.
Boom.
The sound was so loud it nearly made stars burst behind his eyes.
Before he could even get angry, he felt a warm, soft body press tightly against his back.
The unmistakable curves of a woman’s figure were so pronounced that his anger instantly fizzled out.
Gritting his teeth, he tried reasoning with her.
“Su Xiaomi. Get. Off. Me.”
Su Xiaomi buried her face against his shoulder and, in response, wrapped her legs around him, settling her full weight atop him like a human blanket.
If anyone had walked in then, they’d have seen two figures tangled on the gray carpet—one man lying facedown in exasperation, the other a woman clinging to him like an octopus.
It was not a dignified sight.
Jiang Yi cursed himself for forgetting: hadn’t he already learned that this girl turned into a wolf when drunk? How could he let himself get played by her again?
But now wasn’t the time for regrets.
He hooked an arm around her back, flipped them both over, and finally reversed their positions.
Still undignified, but at least better than before.
Sighing internally, he tried to push himself up—
Only for Su Xiaomi to loop her arms around his neck and yank him back down.
Drunk people were deceptively strong—and infuriatingly clingy.
Jiang Yi tried prying her arms loose, but after two failed attempts, he gave up, not wanting to hurt her.
For a moment, he was at a loss.
And then Su Xiaomi, still unsatisfied, began nuzzling his neck, her alcohol-laced breath puffing hot against his skin…
Jiang Yi knew this couldn’t continue.
Softening his voice, he coaxed, “Su Xiaomi, stop messing around. Be good and let go—”
Before he could finish, something brushed his Adam’s apple.
Snap.
The last thread of his restraint shattered.
Heh. And here I thought she seemed like an innocent little girl. What kind of ‘innocent little girl’ is this damn aggressive?!
