I Want to Be Your Mrs. Jiang - Chapter 18
Chapter 18
Tina had worked as Jiang Yi’s secretary for almost two years, yet this was the very first time she was instructed to prepare women’s clothing and deliver it to the company’s underground parking lot.
As a highly professional secretary, Tina was surprised at such an order.
Still, she completed the task in the shortest time possible without any mistakes.
Of course, that did not stop her from quietly gossiping in her mind as she made her way to the parking lot.
In Tina’s eyes, Jiang Yi was not only an excellent boss but also an incredibly attractive unmarried man.
A man like him was naturally surrounded by admirers.
Yet, in the two years she had worked by his side, she had never once dealt with any scandal for him.
She had never had to cover up gossip, fend off unwanted admirers, or prepare gifts for women on birthdays, Valentine’s Day, or anniversaries like other secretaries often did.
By that standard, this was truly the first time Jiang Yi had made such a request of her.
It was also the first time he had brought what looked suspiciously like a romantic interest into the company.
Tina knew she should not gossip about her boss, nor should she pry into his private life, but she could not stop herself from wondering what kind of woman could possibly catch his eye.
Before opening the car door, Tina imagined countless possibilities.
She thought perhaps the girl was a sophisticated mature type, or maybe a stunning beauty with star-like presence, such as the popular young actresses in the entertainment industry.
What she never expected was to be greeted by such an adorably cute girl.
So this was the kind of girl President Jiang liked?
And was this girl blushing right now? Why was her face so red?
Tina’s mind immediately began to conjure up all sorts of images of what might have happened in the car before she arrived.
On the surface, however, she maintained her composure and greeted with a professional smile.
“Hello, I am President Jiang’s secretary, Tina. These are the clothes President Jiang asked me to bring you.”
Su Xiaomi gave her an embarrassed smile.
“Thank you, Tina. I really troubled you.”
Tina returned a polite smile.
“No need to thank me. This is my job. Please try these on. I will wait outside.”
She then considerately stepped out of the car and even closed the door behind her.
Su Xiaomi hugged the clothes, climbed into the back seat, looked around to make sure no one was peeking, and began changing.
The moment she slipped off her tracksuit, her mind replayed Jiang Yi’s words before he got out of the car.
How can you say nothing happened last night? Did we not both take advantage of each other? The more she thought about it, the hotter her face burned.
For the first time, Su Xiaomi realized that Jiang Yi, despite his gentlemanly appearance, was actually a complete rogue at heart.
Tina had prepared a professional outfit for her.
A simple white silk blouse paired with a black A-line skirt.
Somehow it fit her perfectly, as though tailored for her.
Before bringing it over, Tina had already cut off the tags, saving Su Xiaomi the pressure of seeing the price and sparing her any discomfort from wearing brand new clothes.
This thoughtful attention to detail instantly made Su Xiaomi develop a very good impression of Tina.
When Su Xiaomi stepped out, Tina’s eyes lit up.
Earlier, she had thought of her as a cute doll-like girl with a round face and big eyes, the type who could cosplay an anime heroine with just a ribbon in her hair.
Now, seeing her in professional attire, Tina was struck again.
Though Su Xiaomi was still irresistibly cute, the outfit added another kind of charm.
It was an innocent yet subtly sensual quality, a contradiction that somehow fit her perfectly.
Later Tina realized it was probably because Su Xiaomi had such a youthful face but a very attractive figure.
Jiang Yi had only told Tina to bring the clothes, not what to do afterward, so she dared not decide on her own what to do with Su Xiaomi.
It was not until she rode the elevator with her and saw her press the button for the sixth floor that she realized Su Xiaomi was actually an employee of Yihang Media.
Tina could not help thinking.
President Jiang had said in a meeting before that office romances were forbidden.
So what exactly was going on now?
Because of the delay in the parking lot, Su Xiaomi arrived at the office a few minutes later than usual.
Luckily, in the media business, hours were flexible, especially for reporters like her.
Nobody cared if you came a little early or a little late.
She clocked in and was about to quietly sneak back to her desk when someone tapped her shoulder.
Startled, she thought it was her editor catching her for being late, but when she turned around, she found her roommate Ruan Tian grinning mischievously with a coffee cup in hand.
Su Xiaomi pressed her chest lightly with relief.
“You scared me! I thought the editor caught me being late.”
Ruan Tian narrowed her eyes playfully.
“Why did you not come back to the dorm last night?”
Su Xiaomi immediately felt her head throb.
The phrase “last night” was now a trigger for her.
But since Ruan Tian had asked, she could not stay silent.
She forced a vague excuse. “I had something to do. Sorry, I forgot to tell you in advance.”
Ruan Tian leaned closer, lowering her voice.
“Are you dating someone?”
Su Xiaomi thought to herself, If only I were, but someone refuses to cooperate.
Out loud she replied quickly, “No, of course not. I really just had something come up.”
Ruan Tian did not believe her for a second.
In her mind, a girl would not spend the night out unless she had a boyfriend.
But seeing that Su Xiaomi did not want to elaborate, she decided not to press further and simply went back to her desk.
Su Xiaomi was still feeling foggy from the alcohol she had consumed the night before.
Even after sleeping, her head ached from time to time.
Fortunately, there was nothing important at work that day, so she spent her hours answering readers’ hotline calls, checking submissions and messages, and got through the day without trouble.
Back at the dorm, she showered, skipped dinner, and collapsed into bed.
She slept heavily until noon the next day when hunger finally woke her.
Her phone showed several missed calls, all from Jiang Yi.
She stared at his number for a few seconds, then deliberately set the phone aside as if she had not seen it.
Hunger was more urgent.
Food mattered more than Jiang Yi’s calls.
Who was Jiang Yi anyway? She pretended not to know him.
After washing up, she put on a fresh white tracksuit and headed downstairs, full of energy and ready to eat.
The moment she walked out of the residential complex, she froze.
Jiang Yi’s car was parked at the entrance, and Jiang Yi himself was standing beside it, talking to Ruan Tian.
She did not know what Ruan Tian said, but for once Jiang Yi’s usually expressionless face carried a faint smile.
Su Xiaomi quickly turned her eyes away and tried to slip quietly past them.
But at that very moment, Jiang Yi lifted his gaze and looked straight at her.
Sensing his attention, Ruan Tian also turned and immediately spotted Su Xiaomi standing behind them.
Ruan Tian waved cheerfully.
Su Xiaomi had no choice but to walk over reluctantly.
When she reached them, she behaved very properly and greeted, “President Jiang.”
Jiang Yi gave a small nod, as if nothing unusual had happened between them.
On the surface at least, their relationship appeared to be nothing more than the pure professionalism of boss and subordinate.
Which, in truth, it actually was.
Ruan Tian smiled brightly.
“Xiaomi, you must be starving after sleeping so long. I was just chatting with President Jiang about good places to eat nearby. He knows all the best restaurants around here. He even recommended a few. We should try them together sometime. Of course, you can also bring your boyfriend along.”
Jiang Yi raised an eyebrow.
“Boyfriend?”
Su Xiaomi almost blurted out a denial but then thought this was actually the perfect chance to prove she did not like Jiang Yi.
So instead of explaining, she said quickly, “President Jiang, I am hungry. I will go eat first. You two continue chatting.”
Jiang Yi’s response was calm.
“I am hungry too. Let us go together.”
Ruan Tian quickly chimed in as well.
“Count me in.”
Su Xiaomi stared at them.
“Are you serious? I was planning to eat spicy hotpot.”
She knew Ruan Tian hated spicy hotpot because she was afraid of breaking out, and Jiang Yi disliked it too, not because of pimples but because he considered it unhygienic.
That was exactly why Su Xiaomi had chosen spicy hotpot, to avoid eating with Jiang Yi.
But to her shock, Jiang Yi shamelessly said, “Spicy hotpot is my favorite.”
Ruan Tian was dumbfounded.
Was this the same President Jiang who had just said he would eat anything except spicy hotpot? Which version of him was the real one?
