I Want to Be Your Mrs. Jiang - Chapter 20
Chapter 20
In the end, Su Xiaomi still went down to the first-floor payment hall with a stack of bills, looking quite reluctant.
Fortunately, after a series of checks, it turned out Jiang Yi just had a common stomachache.
The doctor only prescribed a few boxes of medicine and signaled that they could leave without even needing an injection.
Before leaving the doctor’s office, Jiang Yi asked the doctor very seriously, “Doctor, although it’s just a simple stomachache, I should still pay extra attention to my diet during this period, right?”
The doctor nodded matter-of-factly, “Yes, eat a lighter diet, especially in the next few days. Don’t eat spicy or stimulating foods, so as not to aggravate the condition.”
At the time, Su Xiaomi didn’t quite understand the intention behind Jiang Yi’s question.
It wasn’t until the three of them were standing at the hospital entrance hailing a taxi that Jiang Yi suddenly leaned in and whispered to her, “Then these next few days will be hard on you.” Only then did Su Xiaomi realize, with a start, that Jiang Yi’s “scamming behavior” was actually continuing.
Su Xiaomi stubbornly protested, “…President Jiang, I can’t cook!”
Jiang Yi countered, “You can learn!”
Su Xiaomi replied, “I can’t learn. There’s no kitchen in our dorm, and nowhere to learn even if I wanted to.”
Jiang Yi said, “It’s fine. You can come to my place to learn. I have everything there, even the ingredients are ready.”
Su Xiaomi argued, “…That’s not very appropriate, is it? A lonely man and a single woman… won’t people misunderstand?”
Jiang Yi froze for a moment and asked back, “Misunderstand what?”
Su Xiaomi wore a look that said why are you asking when you already know, “What else could they misunderstand? They’ll misunderstand the relationship between us, of course!”
Jiang Yi couldn’t help but beckon Su Xiaomi over with his finger.
Su Xiaomi instinctively leaned in, only to hear Jiang Yi say calmly in her ear, “It’s fine. If they misunderstand, let them. It doesn’t matter if I’m the one taking a bit of a loss.”
Su Xiaomi couldn’t help but grumble in her head, Look at the way you talk… what do you mean it’s fine if you take a loss? Clearly, I’m the one who would be losing out, right? Then, in the next second, she heard Jiang Yi continue, “…Besides, does our relationship even need others to ‘misunderstand’ it? Isn’t it already very ‘impure’ to begin with?”
Su Xiaomi was dumbstruck, “…How is it impure? Since when was it impure? Why am I completely unaware of this?…”
Jiang Yi said in a relaxed manner, “What, first you didn’t want to take responsibility, and now you’re refusing to admit it after eating my tofu?”
Su Xiaomi,”…”
By the time Ruan Tian finished calling the taxi and turned around, what she saw was Jiang Yi looking like nothing had happened with his hands in his pockets, and Su Xiaomi, who had gone through God-knows-what, with the tips of her ears turned completely red.
Ruan Tian couldn’t help but go crazy internally.
What exactly is the relationship between these two?!!! Why does it feel like their feelings have progressed by leaps and bounds in the short time it took me to call a cab?
At first, Su Xiaomi really thought Jiang Yi’s “hard on you for the next few days” was a joke.
It wasn’t until the next day at work, when Jiang Yi specifically ordered Tina to personally deliver several beautifully illustrated cookbooks to her in the Social News Department, that she finally realized: when it came to this “scam,” President Jiang was absolutely serious.
The people in the Social News Department were secretly alarmed to see Tina suddenly appear.
They thought the department had done something wrong to alarm the high-level executives.
It wasn’t until Tina put down the cookbooks and left that they realized she had come down specifically for Su Xiaomi.
While they couldn’t figure out when Su Xiaomi had become so familiar with the general manager’s office, they were even more baffled as to why the office would specifically prepare cookbooks for her.
Could it be that giving cookbooks as gifts was the new trend?
Compared to the others who were completely out of the loop, Ruan Tian, who knew a bit of the “insider info,” silently connected the dots.
She understood exactly why Jiang Yi had the general manager’s office send the books down.
This was likely a case of “if there’s a chance to be with Su Xiaomi, take it; if there isn’t, create one.”
She was originally so jealous she was going crazy, but when she heard Su Xiaomi explain to the others,”Because I treated Mr. Jiang to something before and accidentally sent him to the hospital, he’s specifically punishing me by making me learn how to cook,” she couldn’t help but feel a bit sorry for Mr. Jiang.
With Su Xiaomi being this dense, if Mr. Jiang really wants to wait for her to “get it,” he’s probably going to be waiting a long time!
Because she had to cook at Jiang Yi’s house, Su Xiaomi hitched a ride in his car directly after work.
Fearing a misunderstanding from her colleagues, she didn’t get in the car at the company parking lot.
Instead, she walked a good distance away and secretly arranged a pickup spot with Jiang Yi.
Jiang Yi was in a good mood, so he was happy to cooperate with her antics.
However, seeing Su Xiaomi acting as guilty as a thief in his car made him feel slightly annoyed.
Is there a need to be this scared? It’s not like he embarrassment to be seen with!
Su Xiaomi’s cooking skills, well… they were basically at the level of “it won’t kill you.”
So, as she entered the kitchen clutching the cookbooks, she felt incredibly guilty.
Jiang Yi’s kitchen was large and tidy.
Most importantly, it clearly hadn’t seen much use, as some kitchenware wasn’t even unpacked.
Su Xiaomi sighed, thinking that if Luoluo were here, she’d go crazy with excitement just seeing this kitchen.
Meanwhile, she silently opened the cookbook Jiang Yi had prepared for her and began some last-minute “cramming.”
It was clear Jiang Yi had listened when she said she “didn’t know how to cook,” because the two cookbooks Tina prepared were all very simple home-cooked recipes, even including porridge and noodles.
Su Xiaomi flipped through the cookbooks from start to finish and finally decided to cook a pot of Tomato and Egg Noodles for dinner.
Tomato and egg were relatively easy with a low failure rate, and noodles were generally less trouble than rice and stir-fry.
The fridge was indeed stocked with everything as Jiang Yi had said.
Su Xiaomi spent a long time rummaging through it before finally finding eggs and tomatoes.
Once she found the noodles, she began following the cookbook steps one by one.
For someone who can’t cook, even the simplest things look easy until you actually try them—that’s when you realize you’re a total amateur.
For example, peeling the tomatoes.
The cookbook made it sound easy: just boil a pot of water, throw the tomatoes in for a bit, and the skin peels right off.
But when Su Xiaomi actually did it, it wasn’t nearly as easy as the book said.
In the end, though she successfully removed the skin, the final product looked all lumpy and pitted.
Fortunately, the appearance didn’t affect the appetite, so Su Xiaomi felt it was fine.
Jiang Yi thought about it and still felt uneasy leaving Su Xiaomi to toss things around in the kitchen alone.
After staying in the living room for a short while, he couldn’t help but wander into the kitchen holding his water cup.
Upon entering, he saw Su Xiaomi holding a knife and cutting the tomatoes; those tomatoes were so lumpy they clearly looked like they had been through a traumatic ordeal.
But they still had “souls,” because as Su Xiaomi cut them, the tomatoes kept rolling around in her hands.
Jiang Yi watched with a racing heart, fearing she might accidentally cut her hand.
He finally washed his hands and went over, saying, “Let me cut them.”
Su Xiaomi looked back at him and obediently stepped aside, though her tone and expression still seemed skeptical, “Do you know how?”
Jiang Yi didn’t speak.
He just took the knife and started slicing—shuck, shuck, shuck.
Not only was he fast, but the slices were even in thickness.
Su Xiaomi was stunned.
Once she recovered, she immediately started showering Jiang Yi with “rainbow farts” (flattery), “Wow, Mr. Jiang, your knife skills are actually this good? Then your cooking must be even better! How about this: you handle the Tomato and Egg Noodles next? I’ll be responsible for being your assistant.”
Jiang Yi asked, “…I am a patient. Do you have the heart to torment me like this?”
Su Xiaomi replied, “I do!”
Jiang Yi threatened, “…Do it yourself. If I can’t eat your handmade Tomato and Egg Noodles within half an hour, just wait for your bonus to be deducted!”
Su Xiaomi, “…”
It turned out that the power of money was truly immense.
Using every ounce of her strength, Su Xiaomi actually managed to serve two bowls of Tomato and Egg Noodles within the thirty-minute limit.
Although the color and aroma were non-existent, and Jiang Yi discovered after one bite that there wasn’t even a trace of salt, it was, at the very least, cooked through.
Su Xiaomi carefully observed Jiang Yi’s expression.
Seeing that his face didn’t change much after the first bite—and that he continued to eat bite after bite—she finally felt relieved and took a bite herself.
Then she almost cried from how bad it tasted. T﹏T
She could honestly say she had never eaten such terrible Tomato and Egg Noodles in her entire life.
Yet, Jiang Yi across from her was eating with quite a bit of gusto.
Su Xiaomi couldn’t help but wonder if the spicy malatang from before hadn’t just ruined Jiang Yi’s stomach, but his brain as well.
Su Xiaomi asked tentatively, “…Mr. Jiang, don’t you think these noodles taste bad?”
Jiang Yi asked, “Do you want to hear the truth or a lie?”
Su Xiaomi said honestly, “…I don’t really want to hear the truth!”
Jiang Yi couldn’t help but be amused by her.
After laughing, he comforted her, “Actually, it’s alright. For a first time, being able to make it like this is already considered pretty good.”
Su Xiaomi’s “tail” couldn’t help but wag a little, “Right? I think it’s pretty good too. At least it’s cooked. You don’t know, but among the people I know, there’s someone who can’t even cook wontons all the way through!”
Jiang Yi spat out a piece of eggshell and continued, “However, you need to keep working hard. Try to make sure ‘strange things’ like eggshells don’t appear in the Tomato and Egg Noodles next time.”
Su Xiaomi replied, “…I’ll try my best!”
