I'm the demise's white moonlight of the bigshot - Chapter 70-Part 1
Chapter 70—Part 1
On the quiet streets of midwinter, a tremendous sound shattered the silence, as if the entire world was about to awaken.
When Ji Ran fell to the ground, held tightly by Shen Zhi, her ears buzzed, and all surrounding sounds seemed to vanish, leaving only the ringing in her mind.
The overwhelming impact felt particularly intense and scorching.
It hurt; her whole body ached.
Shen Zhi’s grip was so tight that every bone felt the pressure.
At that moment of danger, he thought only of her.
After a while, Shen Zhi regained some composure and looked at the girl in his arms, calling out hoarsely, “Ran Ran.”
Ji Ran kept her eyes tightly shut, her face pale.
“Someone’s trapped under here; hurry and help!”
Soon, passersby noticed the situation.
A large truck had crashed directly into a tree by the roadside.
The force was so great that the entire tree fell, heading straight for Shen Zhi and Ji Ran.
Shen Zhi acted quickly, pushing Ji Ran forward to shield her, but he couldn’t move faster than the falling tree.
One of his feet was pinned under the trunk.
Ji Ran was still dazed, but the shouts from those around her pulled her back to reality.
She opened her eyes and saw the boy before her; his dark eyes shone brighter than ever.
He gazed quietly at Ji Ran and said calmly, “Ran Ran, don’t be afraid; it’s okay now.”
Ji Ran dared not move because his face was as pale as paper.
Despite the cold weather, beads of sweat formed on his forehead.
“Shen Zhi,” Ji Ran reached out to touch his cheek.
At this moment, more people began to gather around, shouting for help: “Come over here and help! Hurry!”
“Here! Over here!”
When the crowd gathered, they worked together to lift the tree trunk aside and moved it just enough for Shen Zhi’s foot to finally break free.
He whispered, “I’ll move now; can you sit up slowly?”
Ji Ran cried out with a quivering voice, “Don’t move; your foot must hurt a lot.”
Concerned bystanders warned him too: “Young man, don’t move! That foot is serious!”
Nearby, flames erupted; it turned out that the truck that had knocked down the tree was now on fire.
Many onlookers gathered around; soon someone began calling for an ambulance and emergency services.
Fortunately, the truck driver had quickly exited after stopping his vehicle. However, flames spread rapidly across the entire truck.
The driver stood beside it with arms outstretched as if trying to stop the fire from spreading but could only watch helplessly.
Ji Ran wanted to maintain this position until the doctor arrived since only a doctor could determine whether moving him was appropriate.
Yet above her, Shen Zhi had the nerve to laugh: “Ran Ran, I’m going to shift left now; can you sit up slowly?”
Ji Ran immediately shook her head: “No.” She genuinely worried about Shen Zhi’s foot.
If anything happened to it, she felt that even giving him her entire life would not be enough.
Although Shen Zhi remained tall and elegant at twenty-seven in her previous life, Ji Ran feared the butterfly effect.
She worried that her presence would affect this life of Shen Zhi.
She tightly gripped his arm and gently shook her head: “Don’t move.” “If it were just us two right now, I would be very happy with your request.”
Shen Zhi leaned closer to whisper in her ear, his warm breath brushing against her earlobe.
What he said was even hotter than his breath; Ji Ran’s ears flushed crimson.
How could he still be so flirtatious at this moment?
Fuming with anger, she wanted to push him away but thought better of it considering his condition.
Instead, her small face puffed up in indignation as her previously bright rabbit-like eyes gradually lost their panic and fear.
Shen Zhi’s fingers gently tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear before he lowered his head to brush his lips against her earlobe lightly—like a dragonfly touching water—before pulling away: “Don’t be afraid; big brother Shen Zhi is really fine.”
Suddenly everything blurred before Ji Ran’s eyes as tears filled them again.
She looked at the boy in front of her with teary eyes.
She initially wanted to scold him but ended up resting her head on his shoulder instead, biting lightly on his coat while trying hard to suppress her sobs.
After a long time, she spoke softly through tears: “Shen Zhi, you have to take responsibility for me.”
There could be no halfway measures.
Because she had loved him like this before, she knew she would never love anyone else in this lifetime.
Soon after, fire trucks arrived with their wailing sirens echoing from afar until they slowly reached them.
An ambulance followed closely behind.
After an initial examination by doctors revealed that while his ankle had been compressed by the tree trunk during the incident, there seemed to be some gaps between branches and trunk that prevented any bones from being crushed directly.
However, further detailed examinations at the hospital were necessary. Once Shen Zhi boarded the ambulance, Ji Ran quickly sat beside him.
After an initial assessment by medical staff determined he did not need a stretcher but could sit quietly in an ambulance seat instead.
While accompanying him in silence due to medical personnel being present, Shen Zhi did not hold her hand at first.
Unexpectedly as the ambulance started moving, a small hand gently slid onto his leg and stealthily crept along the edge of his jeans until it finally intertwined with his fingers.
Eventually, she lightly grasped his hand.
Shen Zhi lowered his gaze and watched every little movement she made until he slightly tilted his head; when he glanced back at her again, Ji Ran sat upright with wide eyes staring out of the window opposite them.
Shen Zhi chuckled softly and turned his hand over to clasp hers firmly in his palm.
Upon arriving at the hospital, Ji Ran firmly insisted he not walk anymore and found a wheelchair for him instead.
Shen Zhi stood on one foot while looking down at the wheelchair before smirking slightly: “Sit in this?”
“I’ll push you,” Ji Ran replied confidently with a nod.
Finally giving her a sidelong glance while shaking his head slightly, he murmured: “Only you would do this.”
Thus, Ji Ran pushed Shen Zhi through registration for treatment.
Despite being such a slender girl, she showed no signs of fatigue whatsoever.
After taking X-rays of his ankle injury and examining it carefully afterward, doctors nodded in relief, saying: “Fortunately it’s just a hairline fracture; rest for some time will suffice. Best not to walk around much.”
“Doctor, does he need hospitalization?” Ji Ran asked eagerly while looking at him with anticipation.
The doctor chuckled at her enthusiasm: “In general circumstances like this one, we recommend hospitalization for observation.”
“Okay then; we’ll stay.”
“No need.”
Both voices spoke simultaneously.
Ji Ran turned towards Shen Zhi in the wheelchair who pressed his pink lips together before finally saying: “If you’re willing to stay in hospital tomorrow I’ll not only buy you breakfast but also keep you company all day long.”
Shen Zhi looked at her with raised eyebrows in surprise.
Ji Ran thought that after offering such generous conditions he should agree without hesitation as her boyfriend; however he merely blinked twice calmly instead.
Ji Ran felt deeply insulted by this response—wronged even.
Just when she lowered her gaze towards her shoes feeling dejectedly upset suddenly a gentle voice sighed softly: “Okay then; I’ll listen to you.”
Ji Ran lifted her eyelids slightly and when she looked back at him again Shen Zhi smiled warmly at her.
After completing hospitalization paperwork for Shen Zhi, Ji Ran’s phone rang.
It was Grandma Ji calling with concern in her voice: “Ran Ran dear it’s almost ten o’clock now; it’s not safe outside. Would you like me to send someone over to pick you up?”
Knowing it was indeed getting late Ji Ran replied softly: “Grandma I haven’t seen my classmates for so long; let me chat a bit longer okay? I’ll come home soon.”
The excuse she gave when leaving was that she had plans with former classmates.
little did they know she had no friends available for such outings whatsoever!
Grandma Ji understood how long it had been since she last returned home so she reminded: “Make sure you hurry back before eleven! Your father asked about you today too—but Grandma has been protecting you!”
“I know! Thank you Grandma! You’re my favorite!”
Ji Ran blew a kiss into the phone which made Grandma laugh happily on the other end.
After hanging up she turned back towards Shen Zhi who had changed into a light blue hospital gown.
The room temperature was comfortable with bright light shining down upon him and illuminating his face beautifully.
After some time Shen Zhi pursed his lips and asked softly: “Didn’t you say your favorite is me?”
Ji Ran: “…”
The next morning bright and early after getting up Ji Ran used running as an excuse to go outside while Grandma and Grandpa nodded approvingly.
To her surprise, both called out simultaneously wanting to join in on exercising together!
Startled, Ji Ran quickly found another excuse to slip away unnoticed!
She brought a hearty breakfast back to the hospital just as doctors were making rounds inside.
When she entered, the doctor inside, along with several people who looked like interns, all turned their heads and looked at her.
Shen Zhi was half lying on the bed, letting a group of people watch him.
After the doctor finished the examination, he looked at Ji Ran with interest, then turned to his intern and said, “That’s why I told you not to study medicine. You don’t even have time to fall in love, and you’re outdone by younger kids.”
A group of interns followed the doctor out, suppressing their laughter.
Ji Ran, who was standing against the wall, blinked.
So this is called an unexpected disaster, right?
