I'm the demise's white moonlight of the bigshot - Chapter 70-Part 2
Chapter 70-Part 2
After finishing breakfast, the two stayed in the hospital room for a while.
Ji Ran watched as the sun gradually rose outside, warm sunlight streaming in through the glass window.
Ji Ran turned to Shen Zhi and smiled, “How about I push you to the little garden downstairs?”
Seeing her so enthusiastic, Shen Zhi didn’t want to dampen her spirits and simply let her push him downstairs.
Once they reached the small garden below, many patients were wandering around.
Some elderly with white hair and some small children running joyfully.
After strolling for a bit, Ji Ran found an empty chair and positioned Shen Zhi’s wheelchair across from her.
The sunlight was just right, casting a warm glow despite the lingering chill of winter.
Ji Ran reached down to pick a blade of grass from the ground and playfully scratched Shen Zhi’s cheek from a distance.
At first, he sat quietly ignoring her, which only fueled her determination to tease him more.
Eventually, Shen Zhi grew slightly annoyed and grasped her hand.
“Still playing around?” he said lazily, leaning back against the chair with a smile.
Ji Ran tried to pry his fingers apart playfully while tilting her head to glance sideways.
Shen Zhi noticed that the girl who had been teasing him suddenly froze for a second, her whole demeanor stiffening.
In the next moment, before he could react, she instinctively released his hand and shifted her body away from him.
She moved to the side farther from him.
When Shen Zhi followed her gaze, he saw a woman in a camel-colored coat standing not far away.
She had long curly hair cascading down her shoulders and exuded an aura that was both exquisitely refined yet extremely distant.
Although she was at a distance, Shen Zhi could clearly see her face.
It was the kind of face that immediately made one understand her relationship with Ji Ran.
Ji Ran’s mother.
Before long, a man in a black coat approached her and whispered something in her ear while also glancing over at them.
He noticed Ji Ran’s surprise upon seeing him and then even more astonishment at the sight of the boy beside her.
Ji Ran looked at Pei Yuan and after a few seconds, she stood up.
However, before walking over, she spoke up: “That’s my mom.”
As she reached Pei Yuan’s side, Pei Yuan looked at her with an inscrutable expression that revealed little emotion.
“Mom, what are you doing here?” Ji Ran asked softly.
Pei Yuan let out a cold laugh; “That’s something I should be asking you.”
Her tone carried the usual indifference she always displayed, fully aware that Shen Zhi couldn’t hear them from this distance.
Yet, for some reason, she suddenly didn’t want Shen Zhi to see how Pei Yuan spoke to her.
She didn’t want anyone to discover how coldly her mother treated her.
Even the way she spoke was commanding as usual.
For the first time, Ji Ran felt a desire to resist.
She quickly interjected before Pei Yuan could say anything else: “I’ll take him back to his room first; we can talk later.”
Without waiting for Pei Yuan’s response, Ji Ran turned back to Shen Zhi and directly pushed his wheelchair.
Neither of them spoke on the way back.
Once they reached the room, she stopped the wheelchair and quietly said, “My mom is downstairs; I have to go back with her.”
Shen Zhi nodded slightly.
He looked up at Ji Ran; his entire demeanor was enveloped in a low pressure that had arisen since Pei Yuan appeared.
As Ji Ran turned to leave and walked toward the door, Shen Zhi suddenly called out: “Ran Ran.”
Ji Ran glanced back at him and smiled: “I’ll come see you tonight.”
Shen Zhi gazed at her cheek; those big watery eyes concealed laughter.
Finally, he gently nodded and replied in a hoarse voice: “Okay, I’ll wait for you.”
Waiting indefinitely.
When Ji Ran reached downstairs, she saw Pei Yuan still standing in the same spot without moving an inch.
So she slowly walked over at a leisurely pace.
As soon as she arrived in front of Pei Yuan, without any small talk, Pei Yuan got straight to the point: “Who was that just now?”
Ji Ran thought for a moment before softly saying: “He’s my classmate; we sit together.”
Pei Yuan seemed unsatisfied with this answer and added: “He’s the one who always ranks first in our grade.”
Pei Yuan appeared amused by this response; perhaps Ji Ran’s answer struck her as overly evasive.
She chuckled softly while narrowing her eyes at Ji Ran: “Ran Ran, you know your mom wants to hear more than that.”
Ji Ran pursed her lips tightly.
Pei Yuan’s attitude made it increasingly clear; her gaze grew colder as it bore down on Ji Ran with an implicit demand for answers.
“Ran Ran, are you dating?”
Once those words were spoken, an invisible barrier seemed to rise between mother and daughter.
A deep chasm separating them. Ji Ran stood on one side while Pei Yuan stood on the other.
Ji Ran remained silent.
At this moment, an ordinary person might simply deny it outright—nope, not happening—two simple words that could easily be said aloud.
Perhaps they could even evade responsibility altogether with such a response.
But Ji Ran didn’t want that.
She had previously been reluctant for anyone to know about their relationship.
She had countless reasons—she needed to focus on studying without affecting other classmates or wanting to be an exemplary student.
There were many reasons; there could be many causes too.
But when Pei Yuan questioned her like this, Ji Ran found herself unwilling to deny it.
She knew it wasn’t rational behavior but still felt compelled not to deny Shen Zhi’s existence or what he meant to her.
Yet when she remained silent, Pei Yuan also fell quiet.
There seemed to be an unspoken contest between them—a subtle standoff of wills.
Finally, Pei Yuan looked at her coldly and said: “Let’s go; I’ll take you home.”
Ji Ran hadn’t expected their first public confrontation would end with Pei Yuan backing down first; even she felt somewhat unprepared for this outcome.
However, in the end, Pei Yuan did take Ji Ran back home to Grandma and Grandpa Ji’s house.
Ji Ran stayed quietly at home until evening.
She checked the time, knowing Grandma and Grandpa Ji went to bed early—almost by eight o’clock every night.
So she got dressed quietly and prepared to sneak out.
When she finally slipped out unnoticed and took a taxi without messaging Shen Zhi,
Even though he had previously texted telling her not to come find him tonight, just thinking of him all alone in the hospital tugged at her heartstrings.
Upon arriving at the hospital, she skillfully made her way to Shen Zhi’s room but just as she was about to push open the door inside came a familiar female voice:
“You’re not suited for Ji Ran.”
Pei Yuan’s voice was genuinely pleasant—cold yet mature.
Ji Ran peered quietly through the glass on the door; Pei Yuan stood by the bed while Shen Zhi sat on its edge with his head bowed slightly, his black hair obscuring his eyes, making it impossible for Ji Ran to discern his expression at that moment.
Finally lifting his head slightly after some time passed by,
Shen Zhi spoke earnestly: “Auntie, I won’t affect Ji Ran’s studies.”
Pei Yuan remained expressionless as she coldly regarded him: “It’s not just about studies.”
“Your family,” Pei Yuan said softly but firmly.
The words landing heavily on Shen Zhi’s heart like a hammer blow.
Even someone as composed as he couldn’t help but show a bitter smile in response.
Yes…his family.
Pei Yuan wasn’t one for beating around the bush; she always got straight to the point: “If you’re not serious about this relationship, then it should end now since you both are still young.”
“But if you think seventeen is old enough to commit yourself, then I won’t agree either; your family is too complicated—it’s not suitable for Ji Ran.”
Shen Zhi kept his head lowered, tightly gripping onto the edge of his hospital bed.
His hands clenched so hard that his knuckles turned pale from exertion.
“And besides your mother’s illness…” Pei Yuan paused momentarily before continuing,
Shen Zhi suddenly raised his head sharply but Pei Yuan ignored his gaze as she spoke flatly: “Mental illness has familial hereditary factors; your mother fell ill at twenty-one—how can you guarantee that gene hasn’t been passed down to you?”
Bang!
When Ji Ran forcefully pushed open the door it slammed against the wall with tremendous noise startling everyone inside!
Standing at the doorway trembling all over,
Pei Yuan stared in shock while Ji Ran resembled a furious little lion ready to pounce—clenching her fists tightly!
She bit down hard on her lip trying desperately not let tears fall.
Yet finally she managed to speak up: “How can you say such things?”
Using a mother’s illness as leverage against her son!
Ji Ran hadn’t expected such behavior from Pei Yuan!
She thought Pei Yuan was domineering or assertive—she had grown accustomed to seeing those traits—but never imagined she’d be so cold-hearted or selfish!
“You’re also a mother! How can you say something like this about someone’s mother?”
Ji Ran widened her eyes, trying hard not let any tears escape!
But disappointment surged within like flames igniting deep inside!
The fire spread, consuming every attachment or obsession held towards Pei Yuan until nothing remained but barren ground within!
Looking at Pei Yuan left Ji Ran feeling empty inside!
Was it despair or disappointment?
She couldn’t tell anymore…
Finally looking up slowly, she murmured: “I’m ashamed of you.”
