Interstellar Pharmacist - Chapter 61-Part 1
Chapter 61-Part 1
Tang Xin eagerly awaited the next day, anticipating the pale expressions on the faces of her cheap father and Tang Ning.
The next day, just as she had predicted, her cheap father announced a major piece of news.
However, the content of the announcement surprised her, “Ning is unwell and will stay here to recuperate for a few days. He will leave the Tang family after some time.”
Tang Xin touched her nose, not expecting her cheap father to care so much about Tang Ning. She had thought that upon learning of Tang Ning’s downgrade to a B-grade gene, her father would immediately abandon him.
Or perhaps these people were too foolish and didn’t think to test his gene level? Were they completely unaware of this?
As she pondered, Tang Jing arrived with her guard.
As soon as she entered, she complained to Tang Xin, “In the past, when siblings got sick before leaving home, the head of the family immediately drove them away without any mercy. But now, with Tang Ning, he makes an exception and lets him stay to recuperate. It seems only Tang Ning is truly his biological son.”
Before Tang Xin could respond, Tang Jing curiously asked, “Is Tang Ning needing to recuperate because of something you did, Eighth Sister?”
Tang Xin didn’t reply, her gaze fixed on the man behind Tang Jing.
“Is this the guard you chose? I haven’t seen him before.”
“He’s a level 5, B-grade gene, and quite skilled.”
Tang Jing immediately understood, suggesting, “Why not have him and Yan Hao go out and spar for a bit?”
This was another attempt to send him away.
Yan Hao, with a cold face, walked out of the room first.
Tang Xin deeply felt that Tang Jing’s guard would be reduced to a scum. Sparring with an eighth-level martial artist, especially one in a bad mood, was nothing short of a hellish mode.
Once the room was left with just the two of them, Tang Jing spoke slowly, “He confessed that he likes me and is willing to do anything for me. When the steward was attacked, I was the one who sent him. He would never betray me. But since you don’t know him well, it’s better to send the guards away to ensure nothing is overheard.”
Tang Xin felt a bit awkward.
“Your guard likes you, yet you discuss other romantic interests in front of him and still assign him tasks?”
Tang Jing, indifferent, explained, “I had already clearly rejected him. He simply refuses to give up, saying that staying by my side and serving me makes him happy. Since it makes him happy, of course, I won’t hesitate to use him.”
Tang Xin couldn’t help but be impressed by Tang Jing’s logic.
She silently thought to herself.
Tang Jing brought up the topic again, “Is Tang Ning’s need for recuperation related to you?”
“Yes,” Tang Xin admitted straightforwardly.
“Check his gene level; there will be a surprise. But I don’t know if they didn’t test it, or if our father has hidden the news. Either way, no one has mentioned it.”
Gene level, a surprise? Tang Jing felt chill.
“Eighth Sister, do you mean what I think you mean?”
The two were clearly at odds, so if it was a surprise, there could only be one possibility.
But could there really be a drug that lowers gene levels? Was it just her ignorance that kept her from hearing about it?
Tang Xin smiled, “I’m not a worm in your belly, so I don’t know what you’re thinking. Simply put, do you have a way to spread the word that Tang Ning’s gene level is actually B-grade?”
Tang Jing gazed deeply at the person sitting across from her, silently thankful she had chosen the right side.
Tang Ning was favored because of his A-grade gene level. If he were downgraded to B, many things would change.
He might even be suspected of always being B-grade, only masquerading as A-grade, suggesting a grand conspiracy.
Without further hesitation, Tang Jing replied, “There are many ways. I think the best one is to use Tang Ning’s pretty guard.”
“What do you mean?” Tang Xin asked.
“Eighth Sister might not know, but the steward tried to please Tang Ning by finding a pretty, capable girl to serve as a guard in the Tang family. He made sure she arrived before Tang Ning came of age to make it easier for him to choose. The steward used some tricks to ensure everything went smoothly.”
“Tricks?” Tang Xin showed a half-smiling expression, emphasizing those words.
“The girl is quite capable, living with her younger brother, who is two years younger. She had a well-matched fiancé and a comfortable life. Who would leave that to become a long-term guard at the Tang family without a special reason?”
“The steward lured her brother into gambling, making him lose everything and end up deeply in debt. The girl, not wanting to burden her fiancé, broke off the engagement and agreed to the steward’s terms. She became a guard, and her brother’s debts were cleared.”
“In my opinion, if her brother hadn’t been a compulsive gambler, no matter what the steward did, it wouldn’t have worked. But she doesn’t see it that way. As far as I know, she once drunkenly confessed that if the Tang family hadn’t deliberately set up her brother, he would never have done such a thing.”
“If we can offer her something irresistible and get her to say that Tang Ning’s gene level is B-grade, not A-grade…”
Tang Jing smiled, “There’s no better way.”
Tang Xin was curious, “You always seem to know a lot of inside information?”
Tang Jing rolled her eyes, retorting, “Do you think everyone is like you, living carefree without planning ahead? Six years ago, I started building good relationships with the servants. Although I’ve been away for the past two years, those relationships have just become a bit distant. A few gifts can easily restore them.”
“…”
Tang Xin had to admit that in terms of networking, Tang Jing was truly talented.
“So, how do you plan to win her over?”
“It depends on how well Eighth Sister has been doing these past two years,” Tang Jing smiled.
“If you can offer her a substantial amount of money and a place where she and her brother can live safely after betraying the Tang family, I’m sure she would be willing to do anything.”
Tang Xin’s smile deepened.
She had negotiated “friendly cooperation” with the military forces on Jupiter using gene purification agents. Their relationship was now very stable.
She was confident they would turn a blind eye to a few contract breaches.
The world was like that.
The rules were unbreakable only because the stakes offered weren’t high enough to make exceptions.
“Money isn’t an issue, and I can offer her protection after it’s done. But how do we approach her? Will she trust us easily?” Tang Xin asked.
