Interstellar Pharmacist - Chapter 64-Extra Chapter
Chapter 64-Side Story—Tang Jing
Tang Xin is such an idiot.
Tang Jing thought this as she watched Tang Xin head out for a shopping spree.
Despite being only a few days apart in age and both having turned sixteen, Tang Jing had focused all her energy on building good relations with the Tang family’s servants, hoping to gather some useful information for the future.
In contrast, Tang Xin was all about buying and playing, showing no interest in serious matters. Tang Jing, being a C-level gene, spent a lot of time training and had finally reached Level 2. Tang Xin, with her B-level talent, was wasting her heavenly-given ability by not putting in any effort.
Tang Jing often wondered how great it would be if their talents were switched.
Why did Tang Xin, who barely put any effort in, become a Level 2 so easily? Why could Tang Xin, despite being so useless, find a good match due to her B-level genes and beauty?
And what about her? No matter how hard she worked or how much effort she put in, she was still just an unwanted C-level girl.
Tang Jing thought about the widely accepted theory in the galaxy: “A person’s destiny is determined from birth.”
She gritted her teeth and told herself, “I don’t believe in fate, and I won’t yield!”
Time flew by, and two years later, she was about to leave home.
Tang Jing thought long and hard and decided to have a talk with Tang Xin.
She figured Tang Xin would likely stay with the Tang family. If that was the case, it would be better to go out together and let Tang Xin rely on her.
Tang Xin could give her resources to Tang Jing, and in return, Tang Jing would offer Tang Xin the freedom of marriage and a carefree life—beneficial for both.
However, to her surprise, Tang Xin rejected her suggestion.
She had expected Tang Xin to stay firmly at home, but instead, Tang Xin not only chose to leave but even stole a guard that Tang Ning had set his eyes on.
Had Tang Xin suddenly developed a backbone..Tang Jing couldn’t help but wonder.
It was absurd that Tang Xin directly clashed with Tang Ning. If she had collaborated with her and had some guidance, such a situation could have been avoided.
Tang Jing had been keen to watch the drama unfold but then reconsidered and felt soft-hearted.
Before she came of age, everyone received a monthly allowance. To maintain good relations, she spent all her money, leaving nothing for herself. Though Tang Xin was foolish, she always gave her a share of the things she bought on her shopping sprees.
Thus, despite her disdain, Tang Jing took the initiative to visit Tang Xin and warned her about the danger of her situation.
Unfortunately, Tang Xin was nonchalant and didn’t take her warnings seriously. How stupid could one be to make enemies everywhere without knowing to cling to someone for support?
Tang Jing felt frustrated and thought her visit had been in vain. Still, she told Tang Xin that if things went badly, she could come to her for help.
As for Tang Xin’s promise, Tang Jing scoffed. She thought it was more important for Tang Xin to take care of herself and live strongly.
Choosing guards, leaving home, starting a business on another planet, meeting and dating a suitable man, and facing rejection from her future mother-in-law—all happened quickly.
Looking back suddenly, Tang Jing realized that another two years had passed.
Tang Xin had not contacted her. When she went to the reserved planet, the Tang family said they hadn’t seen the Eighth Miss.
There was no news.
Tang Jing felt a bit heavy-hearted and had some bad guesses.
Nevertheless, with the advent of the gene purification agent and knowing it was possibly created by the Tang family, Tang Jing decided without hesitation to return to the Tang family.
She was starting from behind compared to others and needed to seize every opportunity and strive to reach their average level.
However, she didn’t expect to run into Tang Xin at the Tang family after two years.
And her fate changed accordingly.
Initially, Tang Jing thought she must be seeing things when she saw Tang Xin casually strolling in the garden.
Realizing Tang Xin’s ambiguous relationship with her guard, Tang Jing inquired and learned that they were together. Tang Jing looked up to the sky in silence.
Years had passed, but Tang Xin hadn’t improved; she was still as foolish as before.
Tang Jing couldn’t understand. According to Tang Xin, she seemed to be doing well outside. But how was she managing despite her apparent stupidity?
After exchanging updates, Tang Jing didn’t want to share her troubles as it would make her seem useless, so she tried to gloss over it.
Moreover, even if Tang Xin knew, it would only add to her own troubles without any help.
However, Tang Xin said, “I gave you a chance. Since you didn’t even have the courage to try, don’t regret it later, because you can’t blame anyone else.”
Hearing this, Tang Jing was furious. What did she mean by lacking the courage to try? Tang Xin was born with B-level genes and wouldn’t understand how much effort she had put in!
So, Tang Jing bluntly asked, “Do you know about Tangmen from the Star Network? I want to get a bottle of Tangmen’s gene purification agent. Can you help me?”
She suspected Tang Xin wouldn’t be able to help and had never held out hope.
So when Tang Xin handed her the agent, she was completely stunned.
Tang Jing couldn’t control herself and fell into a frenzy. If she could become B-level, her whole life would change.
Tang Xin was still the same, with B-level genes but clueless about how fortunate she was.
But this time, Tang Jing no longer felt negative. If Tang Xin didn’t understand, she could teach her.
For the sake of the gene purification agent Tang Xin gave her, Tang Jing was willing to wholeheartedly call her “Eighth Sister.”
Honestly, Tang Jing never expected to have a stroke of luck. The casual concern she had given without expecting anything in return had given her a tremendous surprise!
Tang Jing originally planned to take the agent, become B-level, and then flaunt it in front of the scum and his mother, hoping to infuriate that old woman.
But then, Eighth Sister suddenly came to her and asked for help with a task.
Find someone to fight the steward? Tang Jing hesitated.
However, having received help from Eighth Sister before, she couldn’t refuse her request.
She inquired and learned that her father would personally lead Tang Ning to select supplies on Tang Ning’s coming-of-age day.
So, Tang Jing sent her guard, chose the right moment, and infiltrated the study.
The day before the infiltration, she had specifically gone to the study and secretly left her jade pendant in a corner.
In case the guard was caught, she would have an excuse that they were there to help her find the pendant.
Even though the excuse was absurd, it was justified. Her father would scold her severely but would only reprimand her for poor handling.
To her surprise, the steward was very weak, and the guard escaped quickly and easily.
What happened next took Tang Jing by surprise.
The steward committed suicide, Tang Ning became a B-level gene, and her father was arrested. Eighth Sister recommended her as the new head of the family.
The joy was so overwhelming that it felt like a dream to her.
Tang Jing pinched herself hard. She told herself that no matter how she came to power, since she had become the head of the family, she had to do exceptionally well to silence everyone.
Tang Jing gradually softened the elders’ attitudes.
From dissatisfaction to neutrality and finally to approval, it took her three years.
With B-level genes, level 5 strength, and superior skills and intelligence, she far surpassed Tang Ning. Such a successor left the First Elder very satisfied.
As they got along and their relationship improved, the First Elder quietly told Tang Jing, “The Tang family rules have been established for a long time. There have been outstanding talents, but none as capable of destroying the Tang family as Tang Xin. What’s more surprising is that such an unpredictable person brought us an excellent successor. You are better than Ning. With you managing the Tang family, I am at ease.”
Tang Jing smiled faintly, “The First Elder is too kind.”
Her current competence was partly due to Tang Ning. Desperately trying to catch up with those ahead and refusing to fall behind made her who she was today.
However, Tang Jing had to admit, people change.
When daydreaming, she often thought that if she ever became the head of the family, she would implement many policies beneficial to girls.
But when she actually became the head, she hesitated.
The cautionary tale of Tang Ning was right before her eyes. He had a smooth journey growing up, yet turned out mediocre.
Only oneself can save oneself. Those who choose comfort must naturally pay the price.
Tang Jing abandoned her original thoughts and only added one rule: girls willing to use resources to strive would receive an additional ten to twenty thousand credits each, based on their initial amount.
As for Tang Ning, after he became B-level, Tang Jing transferred his and the guard’s contracts back to the Tang family and assigned Tang Ning a new guard. Though strong and with high gene levels, he was rather unattractive.
Later, Tang Jing found the pretty guard, terminated her contract, and allowed her to marry peacefully. She no longer needed to hide and could walk freely without fear.
With the Elders’ Council appeased and Tang Ning and Tang Jingnan constantly monitored, they posed no threat. Sitting in her chair, Tang Jing was surprised to realize that the important tasks were finally done.
She remembered that she was not young and still unmarried. She pulled her guard over and asked, “You haven’t given up? Do you like me that much?”
The guard replied calmly, “I won’t give up.”
“…”
Tang Jing seemed to understand what Eighth Sister was thinking.
She used to believe that if a girl had the means, there was no need to settle for someone inferior. But as she held power and became self-sufficient, she gradually cared less about wealth and valued sincerity more.
Sincerity… Tang Jing thought of this word and suddenly wanted to slap herself. Only a naive person like Eighth Sister would talk about sincerity all the time.
If the guard’s attitude remained unchanged for another year, she might give him a chance to prove himself.
