Quick Transmigration with Female Lead Aura - Chapter 130-Part 2
Startled by the call, Yun Shu glanced at Jiang Nian, who had also noticed.
Jiang Nian gave her an understanding smile.
Yun Shu answered the phone.
After a brief conversation, she hung up and stood.
“Sister-in-law, I need to go.”
Jiang Nian waved her off.
“Go on, go on.”
Yun Shu quickly walked away, her expression flustered.
In just two minutes, a man dressed in black walked over.
His face was strikingly handsome, with sharp, angled eyebrows that extended to his temples, deep-set features, and a firm jawline.
His slightly narrowed, jet-black eyes gave him a hint of danger.
Yet, in his hands was an exquisitely decorated small cake, which added a touch of softness to his appearance.
Jiang Nian looked up and saw that it was Xiao Zheng.
She smiled and said, “Yun Shu just left. Looks like you missed her.”
Xiao Zheng replied, “She had something urgent to attend to and has already left.”
Jiang Nian nodded and let out a soft “Oh.”
Xiao Zheng placed the cake in front of Jiang Nian and sat down beside her, watching as she ate small bites of the cake.
Jiang Nian said, “You’re the birthday star today. Go have some fun instead of watching me eat cake.”
Xiao Zheng lowered his gaze, his expression tinged with nostalgia and grievance.
In a quiet voice, he said, “But I prefer it when things are like they used to be—when you would make me a bowl of longevity noodles, and Grandma, you, and I would celebrate together. Back when our family was struggling, none of those people outside even bothered to show up.”
Jiang Nian felt touched and thought, This kid hasn’t forgotten my kindness. That means he’ll be a filial one in the future.
She said, “Alright then, I’ll make you a bowl of longevity noodles later.”
Xiao Zheng’s lips curved into a smile instantly.
With a look full of anticipation, he said, “Can we do it tonight? There are too many people around during the day, and I don’t want to be interrupted.”
Jiang Nian agreed readily.
After all, it was just a bowl of noodles, not much trouble at all.
The gloomy look on Xiao Zheng’s face that had persisted throughout the day finally lightened.
After the lunch banquet, most of the guests had left.
Old Madam Xiao, feeling tired, retired to her room to rest, with Jiang Nian accompanying her.
They spent some time discussing Yun Shu, whom Xiao Zheng had brought home.
The elderly lady didn’t seem too impressed and commented, “Yun Shu is still a college student. Setting everything else aside, I’ve observed her all day, and she comes across as timid and small-minded. I’m not sure she has what it takes to be the wife of the President of Xiao Corporation.”
“I’ve always thought well of the Chen family’s young lady, but Xiao Zheng absolutely refused and insisted on choosing for himself. Nian Nian, could you talk to him? Yun Shu is not suitable for him.”
“Yun Shu is still young,” Jiang Nian said thoughtfully.
“With more learning and guidance, she could become a capable partner for Xiao Zheng.”
Reflecting further, Jiang Nian understood the elderly lady’s concerns.
She was worried that if any unforeseen events were to occur, Yun Shu, given her current abilities, would not be able to support the Xiao family.
The elderly lady pondered for a moment, her displeasure growing.
“Is Yun Shu 22 now? You were around the same age when you married Xiao Yi. Later, when Xiao Yi had his accident… If Yun Shu had even half of your capabilities, I wouldn’t say a word against her. But you’ve seen her—hiding quietly behind the crowd. If she doesn’t speak, who would even notice her?”
Jiang Nian mused, “If it’s me we’re talking about, then that’s a bit much to expect. After all, my brilliance is one-of-a-kind, unparalleled in heaven and earth.”
The elderly lady chuckled, tapping Jiang Nian lightly on the forehead before drifting off to sleep, though her worries lingered.
Xiao Zheng spent the afternoon seeing off guests before disappearing until after 10 p.m.
By the time he returned, the elderly lady had long gone to bed, and Jiang Nian was about to turn in for her beauty sleep—after all, age was catching up, and she needed her rest.
Unexpectedly, Xiao Zheng called her: “Sis-in-law, you promised to make me longevity noodles.”
“Do you know what time it is? You haven’t eaten yet?”
“No. I just got back from the office.”
“…”
He sounded genuinely aggrieved.
Jiang Nian changed her clothes and went downstairs.
Sure enough, she found Xiao Zheng slouched over the dining table in the living room.
Resigned, she headed to the kitchen.
Fortunately, she had asked the housekeeper to prepare some noodles and broth earlier; otherwise, she would’ve had to make do with plain boiled noodles.
Leaning against the kitchen doorframe, Xiao Zheng watched as Jiang Nian moved around in her apron.
He seriously requested, “I want two extra fried eggs.”
Jiang Nian rolled her eyes at him but obliged, frying two sunny-side-up eggs.
As she worked, she said, “Grandma spoke to me about Yun Shu earlier. She said Yun Shu’s abilities are somewhat lacking. If you have time, you should teach her more.”
Xiao Zheng’s smiling face darkened slightly.
He didn’t respond and instead asked, “And you? Are you planning to stay in our family forever?”
