Quick Transmigration with Female Lead Aura - Chapter 131-Part 2
Chapter 131-Part 2
Jiang Nian knew that all of this was due to a woman—her stepmother, Guo Xiuyu, who had been married to her father after her biological mother’s death.
Yang Hai and Guo Xiuyu had known each other privately for a long time; it was Guo Xiuyu who introduced Yang Hai to Jiang Nian’s father.
Since Guo Xiuyu wanted to deal with Jiang Nian, Yang Hai would naturally help keep an eye on her, ensuring she wouldn’t have a chance to escape.
Jiang Nian would not let any of these people off the hook.
That day, Guo Xiuyu called again, trying to explain how much her father had missed her over the years.
She said he regretted his past actions and that everything he did was for her good and not for any other reason.
Jiang Nian felt quite emotional as she replied, “Yes, for my good, you locked me up and handed me over to an old man twenty years my senior. Thank you so much for your kindness. I never expected your good intentions would be like this; it’s truly eye-opening.”
“Nian Nian, when Xiao Yi and Xiao Yunshan, along with Chen Mei, just died, everyone said you were an ill-fated person, that you had a hard life and brought misfortune to your husband’s family. We even matched your birth date with Yang Hai’s. How could we harm you?”
“I also matched my birth date with my mother’s. Did you cause her death?”
“…”
Ultimately, the call ended on an unhappy note.
Guo Xiuyu frowned, feeling that the current situation was vastly different from her previous life.
Clearly, over the years she had set many traps for Xiao Zheng and Jiang Nian, yet Xiao Zheng managed to take control of the Xiao family three years earlier than expected.
With the resurgence of the Xiao family and the Jiang family’s inaction over the years, they couldn’t gain any benefits from Xiao Zheng.
Recently, Jiang Tao had become irritable and even harbored some resentment towards her.
Of course, that man was inherently selfish and arrogant, lacking in strategy but easily manipulated.
She had managed to keep him in check in her previous life; she could do so again in this one.
What concerned her was that Xiao Zheng liked Jiang Nian.
The gossip about him wanting to marry his brother’s widow had spread throughout their circle!
She was aware of Xiao Zheng’s methods, so upon returning to life, she whispered in Jiang Tao’s ear to marry Jiang Nian off to Yang Hai.
Unfortunately, it all ended in failure.
……
That evening, Xiao Zheng got off work a bit earlier.
The three of them had dinner together.
Xiao Zheng seemed indifferent but occasionally smiled and talked about company matters without showing any signs of distress.
In his youth, he could not hide his emotions at all; when faced with the board of directors or relatives’ sarcastic remarks and ridicule, he would get angry and furious—this had disrupted many of Jiang Nian’s plans.
The pampered second young master of the Xiao family resembled an irritable little leopard.
He was clear about his grievances and joys; he couldn’t tolerate any deceit.
Naturally, this led him to suffer many setbacks.
Jiang Nian had scolded him numerous times for this and even punished him by not allowing him to have dinner as a way to teach him a lesson.
When facing enemies, once one’s emotions were seen through by others, half the battle was already lost.
Xiao Zheng learned for a long time and endured much; every time he was punished he would kneel in the ancestral hall while the auntie secretly brought him food which he refused to eat.
He would hold onto his grandmother’s leg and cry while gritting his teeth, vowing never to make the same mistakes again.
He absolutely would not repeat those mistakes.
Now, even his grandmother couldn’t quite understand her grandson anymore.
She looked at Xiao Zheng and then at Jiang Nian with a smile: “Ah Zheng, tomorrow is the weekend; bring your girlfriend home for dinner.”
“Grandma, tomorrow might not work.”
“Hm?”
“Yun Shu has something going on at school; she won’t have time.”
Grandma said: “It’s just dinner; it won’t take much time. No matter how busy you are, you still need to eat. Young people should pay attention to their health.”
Xiao Zheng smiled helplessly: “Alright, I’ll ask her.”
Only then did Grandma seem satisfied and added: “Nian Nian has no plans tomorrow? Stay home for dinner together.”
Jiang Nian nodded: “Sure.”
Grandma: “Mm, we’ll have a family meal.”
Xiao Zheng tightened his grip on his chopsticks but raised his head again without showing any signs of distress.
After dinner, Jiang Nian usually went out for a run.
In the past, she used to run with Xiao Zheng; however, he had recently become lazy and preferred reading in his study instead.
Standing in the study while lifting a corner of the curtain allowed him to see Jiang Nian running in the yard clearly.
She wore simple sportswear with a hat pulled down low enough that only a small figure could be seen.
After watching for a while, there was a knock on the study door—Grandma stood outside: “Ah Zheng?”
Xiao Zheng lowered the curtain and went to open the door.
“Is there something you need?”
“Just came to see you.”
Grandma stood in the study for a moment and said: “Why aren’t you opening the curtains? It’s dark in here.”
Xiao Zheng replied: “It’s quieter this way; I still have many documents left to read.”
Grandma nodded in satisfaction: “Seeing you working so hard makes me feel at ease. After all these years, the Xiao family has finally returned to our hands. You must uphold our family’s reputation as well as our standing!”
“Don’t worry, Grandma; I understand.”
“Good then; I won’t disturb you further. By the way, remember to bring Yun Shu back tomorrow.”
“Mm.”
However, by the next evening, Xiao Zheng returned home alone.
He explained that Yun Shu had to finish her thesis and really couldn’t come over.
Grandma said nothing more but expressed disappointment: “I prepared a whole table of dishes; what a shame.”
Jiang Nian felt somewhat puzzled; Grandma had clearly told her before that she didn’t like Yun Shu and thought she wasn’t fit for being Xiao Zheng’s wife.
But now it seemed like she actually liked her?
She said: “Grandma, it’s alright; there will be other opportunities.”
Grandma sighed helplessly and glanced at Xiao Zheng.
Xiao Zheng sincerely added: “Grandma, next time I’ll definitely bring Yun Shu along.”
The dinner went quite well since auntie’s cooking was excellent.
Jiang Nian ate until she was full while taking a walk with Grandma in the backyard.
Meanwhile, Xiao Zheng stayed in his study on the second floor; he lit a cigarette but didn’t focus on any of the documents spread out on his desk.
Sure enough, it wasn’t long before Grandma came back again—this time she didn’t seem as easygoing as before but appeared very serious: “Ah Zheng, why didn’t you bring Yun Shu back for dinner today?”
“Yun Shu couldn’t come because she had something going on.”
“Excuses.”
“It’s not.”
“Are you still holding onto Jiang Nian? Are you trying to deceive me with Yun Shu?”
“It’s not.”
“She is your sister-in-law! Even if your brother is gone, she is still your sister-in-law! If you don’t put away those little thoughts of yours soon enough, our family will definitely lose her!”
