Raising A Pampered Lover - Chapter 10
Chapter 10
Bai Yichen thought for a moment and said, “There might be other reasons. Tonight I will go investigate and see if I can find any clues.”
“Alright.”
The villagers sat around tables, more than ten in total, with dishes spread out abundantly.
Everyone brought food from home, and the atmosphere was as lively as a New Year celebration.
On both sides of Yuan Xi sat the village chief and Fu Jing, while Bai Yichen sat next to Fu Jing.
Whenever Yuan Xi found a dish that tasted good, she would naturally pick some up and place it in Fu Jing’s bowl.
At such times, Bai Yichen would push his own bowl forward and say, “You must be fair, Senior Sister.”
Yuan Xi smiled and also added plenty of meat and vegetables into his bowl.
Fu Jing happily ate the food Yuan Xi had placed for him, unable to hide the joy on his face.
Yuan Xi truly cared for him the most.
The village chief poured wine for the three of them and expressed his gratitude.
Yuan Xi was not good with alcohol and could only take small sips.
Bai Yichen took responsibility for drinking; every toast was intercepted by him.
His bold manner of drinking won everyone’s favor, and soon, many came over to toast him.
Yuan Xi felt as if someone had been watching their table the entire time.
When she lifted her head to trace that gaze, she saw a young girl around fifteen or sixteen years old, her face slightly flushed as she looked in Fu Jing’s direction.
That shy look was filled with admiration.
The girl had delicate features but slightly tanned and rough skin from long days of work in the village.
Her hair was tied into two ponytails, and she wore a dress made of patterned fabric.
Two dimples showed when she smiled—a bright and spirited young girl.
Yuan Xi understood at once. She turned to look at Fu Jing beside her, who was focused only on her and his meal, completely unaware of the burning gaze fixed upon him.
Seeing Yuan Xi looking at him, Fu Jing, holding a piece of chicken, asked, “Do you like this? Shall I give you some?”
Yuan Xi sighed quietly.
He still had no idea.
The little girl liked Fu Jing.
“No need, you eat,” she replied.
After all, the girl was still a child.
After a while, the village chief left to attend to other matters, leaving the seat beside Yuan Xi empty.
Aunt Li quickly came over and sat down beside Yuan Xi, enthusiastically pouring her a cup of wine.
“Elder Yuan Xi, you are truly blessed. Immortal Fu is so tall, strong, and handsome. Just now, I saw he didn’t show the slightest disdain, and he kept helping carry and repair things. Not the least bit pampered!”
Being praised, Yuan Xi felt both happy and proud.
She poured Aunt Li a cup in return. “Auntie, you have good eyes.”
“How old is Immortal Fu?”
“Almost sixteen.”
“Oh my, my daughter Yan’er is fifteen.”
Aunt Li’s face lit up with a big smile.
“Has Immortal Fu taken a wife yet?”
“He has not.”
Hearing that, Aunt Li became even happier.
“That’s perfect! Yan’er hasn’t either.”
“Aunt Li, are you planning to match your daughter with Immortal Fu? Haha!” someone nearby teased.
“Go on! You bunch of rough men know nothing!”
Everyone laughed.
Yuan Xi was momentarily speechless, only smiling and saying nothing more.
She glanced at Li Yan’er, who kept peeking in their direction, her flushed face showing nervous excitement.
“Elder Yuan Xi,” Aunt Li continued eagerly, “I wonder if my Yan’er has the aptitude for cultivation. If she could follow you back and become your disciple, it would be an act of great kindness.”
Before she could finish, Fu Jing’s face darkened.
He said coldly, “I have examined her. She does not have the spiritual roots for cultivation. Besides, Elder Yuan Xi does not take disciples.”
“No disciples? That’s alright too. Yan’er can help with chores, do some rough work, and at least stay close to immortal energy. Yan’er is a very capable girl.”
Bai Yichen heard it too and smiled.
Fu Jing was about to speak again, but Yuan Xi placed her hand over his, signaling him not to get agitated and risk being rude.
She patted the back of his hand gently, giving him a reassuring look that said everything was under her control.
Only then did Fu Jing hold his tongue, keeping his expression cold and silent.
From his attitude alone, it was clear he was unhappy.
The villagers quickly spoke up.
“Oh, Elder Yuan Xi doesn’t take disciples, and besides, what they do is extremely dangerous. They deal with evil spirits all the time. Yan’er shouldn’t follow them…it’s too risky.”
But Aunt Li was not ready to give up.
She snapped back, “What do you know?” If her daughter followed them, she would have plenty of chances to win his heart. With his looks and skill, missing this opportunity would be such a pity. They would never meet another man as outstanding as him. Following him would be like a sparrow turning into a phoenix, climbing high in life.
Yuan Xi said calmly, “Auntie, I am really sorry, but I can’t take her with me. To tell you the truth, it’s very dangerous around us. There are constant assassinations and attacks from evil spirits.”
She paused and continued gently, “Also, my Jing is still young. He needs to make his mark first before thinking about such things. It wouldn’t be fair to delay your daughter’s future.”
Aunt Li felt embarrassed by such a polite rejection and forced a smile.
“Alright then, it just means she doesn’t have the luck.”
After being turned down so tactfully, she exchanged a few polite words with Yuan Xi and left awkwardly.
At the nearby table, Li Yan’er quickly ran after her mother.
Aunt Li whispered something into her ear, and the girl covered her face and ran off crying.
Watching Aunt Li give up and leave, Fu Jing’s expression eased.
Yuan Xi looked at his increasingly handsome face and felt a kind of parental pride.
With a sigh of emotion, she said, “Look at my Jing, so outstanding. We’ve just come out, and already a young girl has fallen for him.”
Fu Jing’s face darkened.
“I don’t like them.”
“Why are you so serious? No one’s asking you to get married now. At least wait three or four years, then think about it. I won’t force you, don’t worry. You’re still too young.”
In her world, fifteen or sixteen was still the age for junior high or high school.
Too young.
Fu Jing’s face stiffened.
He hated hearing anyone call him young.
The age difference was already his sore point.
He muttered in dissatisfaction, “I’m already taller than you. I have muscles, and I train hard. I’m a man now.”
“But height alone doesn’t make you grown up.”
Fu Jing glared at her.
“Alright, alright, my Jing has grown up.”
“Hmph!”
He could not win with her—she always made him angry.
He turned and walked away, leaving Yuan Xi shaking her head with a helpless smile.
Bai Yichen watched Fu Jing leave, his expression complicated.
His disciple had stormed off again.
Truly hopeless!
Fu Jing stood by the riverside, his face dark as he gazed at the flowing water.
Dressed in a fitted black outfit, his robe fluttered in the night wind, making him look like a shadow in the darkness.
The tight fabric outlined his tall, lean figure and defined muscles, exuding a quiet but commanding strength.
A black belt was fastened around his waist, and from it hung a sharp sword whose gleam was deliberately hidden.
His hair was tied high in a ponytail that swayed gently in the night breeze.
He wore black boots that stood firmly on the pebbles by the river.
His silhouette stretched long under the moonlight, but the young man’s face was far from calm.
A figure approached—Bai Yichen, dressed in light blue fitted robes that matched his elegant features and free-spirited temperament.
Standing beside him, he held a wine jar and handed it over. “Here.”
Fu Jing looked at the jar in his hand.
“Yuan Xi said I’m still too young and shouldn’t drink.”
“You’re nearly sixteen already. In most families, boys your age are married and have children. What’s there to fear about a little wine?”
