Chapter 221:The Male Lead Raises a Cat (37)

Shen Mubai let out a sigh of relief, finding it extremely difficult to pacify the cat litter officer when he got angry.

Running his slender fingers through the furry head, Jiang Yiran casually said, “Good.”

Shen Mubai rubbed against his hand, about to meow, when the system in her mind suddenly shouted, “A car behind is out of control and heading towards the male lead. No time; I’ll change your form first.”

Shen Mubai felt a sudden weight in her body. Without much thought about the male lead’s possible reaction, she opened her arms and forcefully pushed him aside.

Sharp braking sounds followed, and then her body felt light again. Shen Mubai had turned back into a cat.

The driver, clearly startled by the sudden loss of control, had taken the wrong lane. Upon seeing the person in front fall, he quickly got out of the car with a face still showing a shocked expression. “Young man, are you okay?”

The sensation of the girl’s body and hair brushing against his face lingered, carrying a faint scent of shower gel. Jiang Yiran’s face displayed a dazed expression. When the driver reached out in concern, he refused the offer.

Standing up, his gaze fell on the innocent-looking cat crouched on the ground. Jiang Yiran’s eyes revealed a hint of inexplicable meaning. He then bent down, picked her up, and used one hand to pick up the fallen backpack.

The driver, still concerned, said, “I’m really sorry, young man. I don’t know why the car suddenly went out of control. Why don’t you come to the hospital with me just to be sure?”

Politely declining once again, Jiang Yiran said calmly, “I’m fine. Just be more careful when driving.”

The driver looked apologetic and quickly agreed.

As the young man walked away, he suddenly remembered something and muttered to himself, “Why did I seem to see a girl just now? Could it be a ghost? It’s strange; I’ll definitely go burn some incense another day.”

Meanwhile, Shen Mubai remained stiff in Jiang Yiran’s arms. However, seeing that he didn’t react in any particular way, she quietly breathed a sigh of relief.

She felt that she wouldn’t know how to face the cat litter officer in the future. She could only say to the system, “It’s over, it’s over. I can’t turn into a spirit after the founding of the country. How am I supposed to complete the mission?”

The system replied, “Revealing your true form is only a matter of time.”

Shen Mubai admired the system’s calmness and had nothing more to say.

Back home, Jiang Yiran put her down and, as usual, went to the bathroom to disinfect.

Unable to discern his true attitude, Shen Mubai, feeling particularly hesitant, didn’t dare to follow. She could only jump onto the tatami mat and lay down, staring intently.

When he came out, she quickly lowered her head, pretending she hadn’t been peeking.

However, when she raised her head again, Jiang Yiran’s figure was nowhere to be seen. Shen Mubai couldn’t tell if she felt disappointed or disheartened, letting out a meow of grievance as she lay down on the tatami mat.

She clearly sensed a subtle change in the cat litter officer’s indifferent attitude, feeling neglected and upset.

After an unknown amount of time, Jiang Yiran, now changed into different clothes, descended from the second floor. He first took out a few small dried fish to feed Shen Mubai. His eyes lowered, showing no expression, quiet and silent.

Shen Mubai took away the small dried fish, but her eyes remained fixed on him. After finishing the fish, she tentatively licked his fingers and then carefully emitted a docile and pleasing meow.
