Chapter 39: Noah’s Decision (2)
Noah, after teleporting from the royal capital to his research building in his territory, informs Lloyd of what needs to be done next.
Then he immediately heads to Fiene’s place.
“Fiene!”
Upon opening the door to her bedroom, Fiene weakly smiles.
“I’m glad… to see you, Noah-sama.”
Fiene smiles softly.
Noah feels anger, sadness, and rage welling up at her words, as if it were a farewell for this lifetime.
But now is not the time to be swayed by such emotions.
He lifts Fiene, who is covered snugly in a blanket, from the bed.
“Master! It’s dangerous to move Fiene-sama right now!”
Martha desperately tries to stop him, but Noah doesn’t listen.
Carrying Fiene, he heads quickly to the research building.
“Are you cold, Fiene?”
Descending the central staircase, they step outside the castle. Night has completely fallen.
“I’m not cold. In fact, the night breeze feels pleasant because my body is rather warm. The stars are beautiful…”
Fiene smiles like faint snowflakes, about to disappear at any moment.
“Fiene, I’m sorry, but could you accompany me for the final experiment?”
“Hehe, in the very end, I can be of use to you, Noah-sama.”
She already knows her time is near.
“Yes, I’m about to make the discovery of the century.”
Entering the research building, Noah carries Fiene down a dark, long corridor. She feels soft and surprisingly light, as if half her soul has already ascended.
Entering a darkened room devoid of magic lamps, candles flicker, and two magic circles are drawn on the floor.
Noah lays a blanket on one of the magic circles and lays Fiene down there.
“Fiene, the floor may be cold and uncomfortable, but it’ll be over soon. Please endure.”
Fiene, with little strength left to reply, smiles faintly at Noah.
And then Noah steps into the other magic circle on the left side and begins to chant a spell.
Then Fiene’s body gradually began to glow.
***
Fiene felt warm magic flowing into her body.
The breathing that had been difficult until a moment ago gradually eased.
Suddenly, her body felt light, and Fiene sat up.
“Noah-sama, what is this?”
With a curious expression, she looked to her side. Then she noticed Noah, who had been chanting spells until now, sway and fall to one knee.
“Noah-sama!”
Startled, Fiene rushed to Noah.
He couldn’t help but cough up blood.
Fiene intuitively understood the situation.
“No way! Noah-sama, for my illness? No, it can’t be!”
Desperately, Fiene supported Noah’s collapsing body.
“It’s okay. Fiene, it’s not as serious as you think. Besides, what I’ve taken on isn’t your illness.”
Noah calmly replied, his eyes shining with a strong light.
Just then, Lloyd entered.
“Noah-sama, here.”
He offered a potion.
“Wait a minute, what’s going on?”
But no one answered Fiene’s question.
After finishing the potion, Noah, supported by Lloyd, headed to the laboratory.
“Noah-sama, please stop! Undo this magic right away!”
“Fiene, relax. Even if it’s just a couple of days for your life, with my strength, I can keep going for a month. It seems like I underestimated you. You’re smarter than I thought.”
Noah laughed as he spoke.
“Lloyd, take care of Fiene. I won’t leave here until the medicine is complete. And Fiene, remember, this is an experiment, not something to save you. Also, I trust you understand this: I’m a genius. Look forward to the results of the experiment.”
With that, Noah closed the door.
Fiene tried to open the closed door, but the doorknob wouldn’t budge.
“Fiene-sama, that door will never break. It’s protected by advanced magic, and only Noah-sama can open it.”
Lloyd, with his eyes lowered, said.
“I… no, this can’t be happening. Noah-sama, please come out! Please! Come out!”
Fiene trembled in fear and pounded on the door.
“Fiene-sama, please calm down. You’ll hurt your hands.”
“Noah-sama said he would listen to anything if I asked! So please, come out!”
Lloyd tried to restrain Fiene.
“No matter how much you knock, it’s useless. Fiene-sama, your master has been fighting that fear for a long time.”
“Huh?”
“He has been fighting the fear of Fiene-sama disappearing.”
“Why… why me, Why would he… Why would he…”
Fiene broke down in tears in front of the door, unable to open it no matter what.
