As the person on the other end of the line spoke, Zhao Yong’s face became like a color palette, shifting from one shade to another.

Finally, with an ugly expression, he hung up the phone.

He glared at Yu Jingchen with resentment and frustration.

“Ha, and here I thought you were all high and mighty. It turns out you found yourself a backer early on, huh? Starshine, of all places? No wonder even CEO Xiao isn’t good enough for you. You’ve got some real skills.”

Yu Jingchen lowered his eyes, hiding the dark emotions within.

When he looked up again, his face was as gentle and harmless as ever.

In an anxious tone, he asked, “Brother Zhao, did something happen?”

Zhao Yong spat on the ground in fury.

“Bah! Still pretending with me? I never imagined I’d be outsmarted by someone like you. Just wait. You think joining Starshine will make you a big star? Forget about it.”

With that, he slammed the door and stormed out.

The day Yu Jingchen left Glory, Zhao Yong stood there cursing him as a traitor.

“If I hadn’t discovered you back then, you wouldn’t even be on this path. Now that you’ve latched onto someone powerful, you’re cutting ties without a second thought.”

Yu Jingchen paused and tilted his head to look at him, a simple, innocent smile on his face.

Zhao Yong frowned.

“What are you smiling about?”

Yu Jingchen leaned in close and whispered softly, “Thank you for taking care of me all this time, Brother Zhao.”

His voice was clear and pure, just like his appearance, but Zhao Yong suddenly felt a cold chill run down his spine.

By the time he snapped out of it, Yu Jingchen had already walked away.

After successfully bringing Yu Jingchen over to Starshine, Shen Mubai finally felt the weight lift off her shoulders.

However, to fulfill Tang Lengliao’s demands, her manager, Li Hong, immediately sent her a pile of scripts.

They included everything from cheesy idol dramas to period pieces, mystery dramas, and web adaptations.

Li Hong, who was standing by, commented, “These are the most recent scripts. I think the mystery drama has potential.”

Though in her mind, she added, “Even if you ruin whatever you act in.”

As Shen Mubai read through the idol drama script, filled with cringeworthy lines like “Woman, you’ve successfully caught my attention” and “So what if you have money? I can’t stand rich people like you,” she felt as if she were being struck by lightning.

Seeing her interest, Li Hong felt relieved.

After all, Tang Xiaoxing’s acting was notoriously bad, and idol dramas were the least demanding when it came to acting skills.

Though, once the show aired, it would surely be flooded with complaints and insults.

But to her surprise, Shen Mubai suddenly picked up a “xianxia” (fantasy) drama script and said, “This one looks good.”

Li Hong’s expression changed immediately.

It wasn’t that the script was unplayable, but the “xianxia” script wasn’t meant to be among the choices.

Someone must have mistakenly included it.

If Tang Xiaoxing were to play the female lead in this drama, the entire production would be doomed, especially since the script had been highly regarded by Tang Lengliao.

Clearing her throat, Li Hong reminded her, “Don’t you hate wirework? Plus, the last stunt double had some issues.”

Indeed, Tang Xiaoxing always used a stunt double for wirework, which was one of the reasons why she had so many haters—people called her the shame of the entertainment industry!

Shen Mubai wasn’t picking the script because she wanted to act in it herself.
