I Want to Be Your Mrs. Jiang - Chapter 28
Chapter 28
Although Teacher Su was amazingly rich in theoretical knowledge, when it came to actual kissing experience, she had only done it once, and that was after she had been drunk.
So the moment she saw Jiang Yi making a move to lean in and kiss her, she immediately started dodging. “Mr… Mr. Jiang, I think we… should still take things step by step… take it slow. Doing something this intense right off the bat… I’m afraid my heart can’t take it…”
Jiang Yi, who originally only intended to tease her, choked on his breath from her response. Finding it both exasperating and amusing, he reached out and knocked on her head. “What kind of random, messy nonsense is going on inside this small brain of yours all day long?”
Su Xiaomi answered honestly, “You!”
Jiang Yi cast a half-smile glance at her. “Isn’t it smutty manga?”
Su Xiaomi: “…” Is this smutty manga joke never going to pass?
Fortunately, Jiang Yi didn’t continue on the topic of smutty manga, nor did he resume the interrupted kiss. For one, it was really too late, and for another, the people living in this building were all from Yihang Media. Although it was unlikely anyone would see them in the middle of the night—and even if someone did, he wouldn’t care much—Su Xiaomi had only just become a permanent employee. If she got caught in a romantic scandal with her boss so soon, others might start gossiping about her.
Besides, they were just getting started. There was plenty of time ahead, and there would be countless opportunities in the future.
With that thought, Jiang Yi couldn’t help but smile and rub Su Xiaomi’s hair. “Alright, it’s getting late, and you have work tomorrow. Hurry upstairs and go to sleep!”
Su Xiaomi looked up at Jiang Yi. Although her heart was overwhelmingly reluctant to part, she still nodded obediently. “Then… I’m going up?”
Jiang Yi was amused by her deeply reluctant look, and he couldn’t help reaching out to grab her slender wrist. “So reluctant? How about you just skip going back tonight and come to my place instead!”
Hearing this, Su Xiaomi instantly puffed up like a startled cat, jumping off the ground. She turned on her heel and ran back, shouting as she ran, “I’m leaving, I’m leaving… Goodbye, Mr. Jiang!”
Jiang Yi watched Su Xiaomi fleeing in panic and thought silently to himself: I need to get Su Xiaomi to change how she addresses me as soon as possible. Otherwise, when the two of us actually get together in the future, if Su Xiaomi keeps calling me ‘Mr. Jiang’ with every breath, it’s going to completely kill the mood!
Lying in bed that night, Su Xiaomi was so excited that she couldn’t sleep for a long time. Scenes from tonight replayed in her head like a movie. One moment she felt that she and Jiang Yi were officially together, but the next moment she felt like they weren’t, since Jiang Yi hadn’t actually said he liked her.
Tossing and turning in this dilemma, she somehow drifted off to sleep. When she opened her eyes again, she realized there were less than thirty minutes left before work started.
She wailed internally and immediately sprinted out of bed to change and wash up. By the time she hurriedly ran to the west gate of the residential complex, she was pleasantly surprised to find that Jiang Yi’s car was actually still parked quietly outside the west gate waiting for her.
This time, without waiting for an invitation from Jiang Yi, Su Xiaomi very consciously pulled open the car door, scrambled inside, and began urging him frantically, “Mr. Jiang, drive fast, drive fast, we’re going to be late!”
Jiang Yi: “…”
Great, she really treated him like a driver!
Jiang Yi—who was currently juggling the roles of driver, chef, and special service provider—managed to drop Su Xiaomi off at the company building before it was time to clock in. He only had enough time to stuff a breakfast into her hands right before she hurriedly got out of the car. None of the farewell scenes he had envisioned, such as a parting kiss or a lingering goodbye, happened at all.
Fortunately, Jiang Yi wasn’t the clingy type, so he didn’t feel too disappointed.
Su Xiaomi successfully clocked in during the very last minute and let out a long sigh of relief. Now she finally had the mood to sit at her desk and slowly enjoy the Boss Jiang Special Love Breakfast.
There were two takeout boxes in total. One held vegetable pancakes, and the other held what was presumably the fried fresh milk Jiang Yi had mentioned last night.
Although there had been a brief delay on the road, the distance from the dormitory to the company was quite short, so when she opened the box, the fried fresh milk was still piping hot, emitting faint wisps of steam.
Putao, sitting nearby, caught the aroma and immediately leaned over. “What’s that? It smells so good!”
Su Xiaomi said with a beaming smile, “Fried fresh milk. Smells great, right?”
Putao’s nose twitched twice, and she nodded vigorously. “It smells amazing!”
Su Xiaomi: “It tastes even better. Hold on, I’ll eat it so you can see.”
With that, Su Xiaomi picked up a piece, took a huge bite, and closed her eyes in enjoyment.
“…”
Putao: “????”
Su Xiaomi cruelly ate the entire box of fried fresh milk right in front of Putao, without leaving behind even a single crumb. In response, Putao declared: “Su Xiaomi, I really misjudged you. I genuinely didn’t expect you to be this kind of person.”
When Su Xiaomi opened her mouth, her breath was filled with the sweet, milky fragrance of the fried fresh milk, rich and sweet, just like her current mood. Lowering her voice, her face flushing red, she said softly, “Sister Putao, I’ll buy you something else. Whatever you want, just say the word.”
Putao understood in an instant: “A love breakfast? Made by your boyfriend?”
Su Xiaomi’s face turned even redder. “Sort of!”
Putao pinched Su Xiaomi’s arm hard. “Holy crap, holy crap! I’ve been going on blind dates for so long and still haven’t managed to get into a relationship, yet a girl like you who never goes on blind dates managed to get taken without a sound? What kind of world are we living in?!”
Su Xiaomi looked at her with feigned confusion. “As someone living in society, you actually don’t know what kind of world this is? It’s a world where everything depends on good looks!”
Putao: “…Let’s end our friendship! If I ever take the initiative to speak to you again, I’m your grandchild.”
Although Putao claimed she wanted to end their friendship, she only managed to hold out for a single morning. By lunchtime, she came shuffling over holding her tray and voluntarily sat down across from Su Xiaomi.
Su Xiaomi looked up at her in silence.
Putao pretended not to notice Su Xiaomi’s gaze, focusing entirely on poking the rice in her bowl. It wasn’t until Su Xiaomi lowered her head to resume eating that Putao finally couldn’t hold back any longer and asked, “Grandma, I’m genuinely too curious about what kind of sacred figure this fried-fresh-milk-making boyfriend of yours is. Please tell your humble grandchild, I promise I won’t tell anyone else.”
Su Xiaomi thought about it for a moment and said, “Do you still remember asking me before what kind of boyfriend I wanted to find?”
Putao racked her brain for a while and said, “Ah, I remember! You said you wanted to find someone like Mr. Jiang.”
Su Xiaomi nodded. “Right! I really found someone like Mr. Jiang.”
Putao rolled her eyes. “If you don’t want to say, then don’t say it. Is there any need to use our Boss Jiang as a shield?”
Su Xiaomi said helplessly, “…I’m telling the truth.”
Putao put down her chopsticks, looked straight into her eyes, and said unhurriedly, “Are you trying to tell me that not only did you find a boyfriend as handsome as Mr. Jiang, but this boyfriend also knows how to make fried fresh milk? Listen to yourself, does that sound plausible? Setting aside how hard it is to find a guy as handsome as Mr. Jiang, let’s talk about Mr. Jiang himself—ask him if he knows how to make fried fresh milk. Does he look like someone who knows how to make fried fresh milk?”
Su Xiaomi thought to herself: He doesn’t look like it! But he really does know how!
In the end, Su Xiaomi had no way to convince Putao that she had actually found a boyfriend like Jiang Yi. Nor could she calmly tell Putao, “To tell you the truth, I didn’t find a boyfriend like Jiang Yi, I literally got Jiang Yi to be my boyfriend.”
Thus, the conversation reached a complete stalemate.
Either way, right up until they walked out of the cafeteria, Putao remained utterly obsessed with Su Xiaomi’s mysterious boyfriend—the one who was as handsome as Jiang Yi and knew how to make fried fresh milk. As for Su Xiaomi, she was already too exhausted to say another word.
Things had been rushed last night, so there were actually many leftover issues that hadn’t been resolved—for instance, there was no follow-up to the kiss incident, and Jiang Yi hadn’t formally confessed either. Su Xiaomi had originally planned to use the opportunity of having dinner with Jiang Yi tonight to resolve all these historical issues at once. However, all her plans were completely derailed by the arrival of an uninvited guest.
Jiang Yi looked at Lu Tu, who was squatting outside his front door acting like a small mushroom, and asked with a look of pure gloating, “Did your wife kick you out?”
Lu Tu buried his face in his arms and didn’t even look up when he heard Jiang Yi’s voice. He merely said in a muffled tone, “You have the nerve to ask? If I hadn’t been dragged down by you, would I have ended up in this miserable, homeless state?”
Jiang Yi looked indifferent.
“What do the matters between you and your wife have to do with an outsider like me?”
“Bullshit!”
Lu Tu raised his head fiercely.
“If you hadn’t put Li Jingjing on the spot right in front of…”
He cut himself off halfway through, because he caught sight of Su Xiaomi standing behind Jiang Yi.
He narrowed his eyes, scrutinizing Su Xiaomi carefully for a long moment, before suddenly saying, “Have I seen you somewhere before?”
Jiang Yi snorted coldly.
“Even primary school kids are too embarrassed to use that pick-up line nowadays.”
Lu Tu: “…No, I really feel like I’ve seen her somewhere before.”
Su Xiaomi had recognized Lu Tu the instant he raised his head. So hearing his question, she immediately said good-naturedly, “Hello, Officer Lu. We have indeed met before. I interviewed you back when there was a traffic accident at the subway construction site.”
Once Su Xiaomi explained, Lu Tu remembered right away. “Ah! Are you that little reporter who wouldn’t take no for an answer after I refused the interview, and then hounded me relentlessly for a whole week?”
Su Xiaomi smiled slightly, taking it as a tacit confirmation.
Lu Tu’s eyes swept back and forth between Jiang Yi and Su Xiaomi a couple of times, though he didn’t say anything right then. However, after Su Xiaomi headed into the kitchen carrying the groceries, he finally couldn’t resist putting an arm around Jiang Yi’s shoulders. Half in awe and half in understanding, he lowered his voice and said, “Brother Jiang, when you said you had a girlfriend earlier, I didn’t quite believe it—because in my eyes, no girl could ever win you over. But the moment I saw that your girlfriend is Su Xiaomi, I had no choice but to believe it. With her level of sheer persistence, forget about you—even a deity would fall for her.”
