If You Don’t Go To Hell, Who Will? - Chapter 54
The second day after my argument with Zhong Yuan, I arrived at the company with two black eye circles and a wobbly gait, feeling as though I were walking on cotton.
My mind was filled with memories of Zhong Yuan’s smile and silhouette as he left yesterday, and the more I thought about it, the more upset I became. Last night, I had been contemplating everything between us, thinking about Shi Yunheng and the arranged marriage imposed on Zhong Yuan by his parents. In the end, I realized that we were truly over.
We were like the countless clichéd dramas where two people love each other but don’t have their parents’ blessing, destined to be separated in real life. Moreover, it was unclear whether Zhong Yuan still loved me at this point.
As daylight broke, I sadly came to this conclusion and encouraged myself to look forward. I told myself that I was not a person with no options and that there was no need to hang on to a dead-end relationship.
In the morning, I smiled at myself in the mirror, saying to myself, “He’s just a man, right? Without him, the world can still go on, can’t it?”
However, as I smiled, tears unexpectedly welled up in my eyes because I realized that without Zhong Yuan, my world might really collapse.
I spent the whole day feeling like a lost soul. My supervisor, who was responsible for guiding me, was very understanding and, seeing my condition, allowed me to rest in the office for the day. After all, I was just an intern, and there wasn’t much for me to do.
When I finished work in the evening, it was raining heavily outside. I had rushed out without an umbrella, so I stood at the entrance of the company, planning to wait until the rain stopped before leaving. There were a few others who, like me, hadn’t brought umbrellas and were also standing at the entrance, some even making phone calls to find someone to pick them up.
Someone opened an umbrella and kindly offered to walk me home, but I shook my head expressionlessly.
After a sleepless night, my steps felt unsteady, and my mind was almost numb. At this moment, I started to hallucinate.
I saw Zhong Yuan holding a deep blue umbrella, smiling as he walked toward me.
It seemed that my mind had been affected by the recent events, and I sighed helplessly as I rubbed my eyes. However, when I looked in that direction again, the hallucination persisted.
Zhong Yuan put away the umbrella and walked up to me, reaching out to hold my hand, smiling as if nothing had happened, and saying, “Let’s go; come with me.”
I took two steps back, looking at him with surprise and a hint of annoyance. Why? Why was he here again?
Zhong Yuan took a step closer, reached out to pinch my cheek, and smiled, saying, “Come with me.”
I turned my head away, speaking in a low voice, “Go away.”
Zhong Yuan didn’t leave; he placed his hand on my shoulder, raised an eyebrow, and slightly curled his lips, his smile carrying a hint of coldness. “Are you coming or not?”
I shook my head with determination. “I’m not going!”
What happened next left me speechless.
He suddenly bent down, his hand sliding down from my shoulder to my waist. He tightened his grip around my waist, then lifted me up with a flourish. He effortlessly carried me on his shoulder.
I was momentarily stunned, and by the time I realized what was happening, Zhong Yuan had already hoisted me onto his shoulder, opened the umbrella, and walked into the rain.
He tilted the umbrella to cover both of us tightly, and I felt as if I were trapped in a small space with nothing in sight except the blue umbrella and Zhong Yuan’s back and legs.
My stomach was resting on Zhong Yuan’s shoulder, and I had trouble breathing. My head hung down, and blood rushed to my forehead. I was already feeling dizzy, and this situation made it even harder to bear. I tried to struggle and get down from his shoulder, but Zhong Yuan’s strong arm held onto my legs, making it nearly impossible for me to move my lower body. I grabbed the fabric of his back and tried to lift my upper body, but every time I almost succeeded, Zhong Yuan effortlessly threw me back, leaving me hanging limply behind him.
Helpless, I clenched my fists and started pounding on Zhong Yuan’s back, shouting loudly, “Zhong Yuan, put me down! Put me down!”
The raindrops on the umbrella overhead made a pattering sound, and in the midst of this annoying noise, Zhong Yuan’s muffled laughter could be heard, making it even more irritating.
Zhong Yuan said with a joyful tone, “I’m not letting go.”
Furious, I continued to pound his back haphazardly, and in an accidental move, my hand landed in a place it shouldn’t have.
Zhong Yuan’s amusement grew even stronger. “Blockhead, you’re quite bold.”
I remained silent.
Zhong Yuan carried me to a car, opened the door, and put me in the driver’s seat before getting in himself. I tried to get up, but he pushed me back into the seat. Then his lips met mine.
Zhong Yuan bent one leg and knelt between my legs, holding both of my wrists behind my back with one hand while the other hand gripped the back of my head to prevent me from moving. I felt like a fish on a chopping board, powerless to resist, waiting to be slaughtered.
Zhong Yuan kissed me urgently and passionately. He sucked on my lips forcefully, and his tongue quickly invaded my mouth, playing with mine. While kissing me, he let out a low, throaty laugh, still infuriatingly cheerful.
It’s really strange. Since I saw Zhong Yuan today, he has been smiling all the time. Why are you laughing? Suddenly, a nameless anger surged within me. Without thinking, I bit his lip forcefully, held onto it for about three seconds, and then used my teeth to graze his lip before finally releasing it.
Zhong Yuan let go of me and stared at my face with a deep gaze. His eyebrows raised slightly, his lips curled gently, and his soft, plump lips appeared even more crimson and lustrous from our kiss, making it impossible to resist the temptation. Furthermore, there were tiny drops of blood on his lower lip, like the venom of a snake, enticing and bewitching.
I suddenly realized how weak I was. Despite my anger, it had dissipated by more than half because of his enticing appearance.
Zhong Yuan released my restrained hands and instead cradled my face in his hands, touching his forehead to mine. His eyes were locked on mine. Then he spoke softly, “Blockhead, can we stop fighting now, please?”
I felt guilty under his intense gaze, so I lowered my eyes and stubbornly replied, “I’m not fighting with you.”
Zhong Yuan lightly brushed his forehead against mine and smiled, saying, “It’s my fault, Blockhead. I was too impulsive yesterday, acting unreasonably.”
His words made me feel a sudden surge of guilt. I realized that Zhong Yuan had this ability: when he was dominant, you couldn’t defy him at all, and when he acted submissive, all your anger would instantly dissipate. In any case, when you were with him, he always held the upper hand, and you could only become the one being controlled.
Though I was reluctant, I had to accept my fate. I had truly fallen into the hands of this extraordinary man, with no chance of turning the tables or escaping.
At this moment, Zhong Yuan gently caressed my cheeks with his thumb, sighed as if in resignation, and said, “Blockhead, I’ve noticed that since falling in love with you, my IQ has gone from three digits to two digits.”
