I'm the demise's white moonlight of the bigshot - Chapter 97 (Extra-13)
Chapter 97
In the bustling CBD area, towering skyscrapers stood shoulder to shoulder, and the Hengchi Group was situated right within HENGCHI Tower. Whenever night fell, the advertising projections on the outer walls of this tower became a signature feature of the city.
However, it was currently daytime, so naturally, that lively nocturnal scene was nowhere to be seen.
Right now, a little boy carrying a small backpack was quietly following behind a man in a black suit. With a face that could be called exceptionally handsome even among young children, he drew quite a few people to turn their heads for a second look.
As they waited for the elevator, Lu Jie asked in a soft voice, “Shiqi, do you need me to carry you?”
Little Shen Shiqi raised his head to look at him and gave a slight shake of his head, “No need, Uncle Lu.”
Even though he was only a five-year-old child, he managed to carry himself with a calm and poised demeanor. Even his speech was proper and measured, leaving even Lu Jie to sigh that while comparing people with others could drive someone crazy, comparing children could drive parents equally mad.
Lu Jie could be considered someone who had watched Shiqi grow up. At two or three years old, he had been a lively and adorable toddler, but who would have thought that by the age of five, he would gradually grow so composed.
Every time they met, he would take the initiative to greet him, looking every bit like a boy with superb upbringing.
Even a man like Lu Jie couldn’t help but dote on this little fellow.
When he led Shiqi up to the 62nd floor, which was where Shen Zhi’s office was located, the outer area served as the executive office zone. The people who had been intently focused on their work all offered greetings the moment they saw Lu Jie walk in.
Then, catching sight of Shiqi trailing behind, they all widened their eyes in astonishment.
“Is that Special Assistant Lu’s child? Wow, why is he so pretty?”
Someone asked the colleague beside her.
The other person shot her a look of utter terror and immediately whispered, “Are you out of your mind? That’s the big boss’s son. Special Assistant Lu isn’t even married; where would he get a kid?”
The young woman who asked the question had only been transferred into the executive office over the past six months. Shiqi rarely visited the company, so she had never seen him before, mistaking his identity upon seeing Lu Jie bring him along.
She covered her mouth, “The big boss’s kid is way too good-looking. This is the first time I’ve ever wanted to use the word ‘handsome’ to describe a little kid.”
And it wasn’t just that he was cute.
Her colleague took a leisurely sip of water and said in a lingering tone, “Well, look at what our big boss looks like.”
The young woman nodded instantly. Even before joining HENGCHI Group, she had known that the company possessed a ridiculously handsome boss.
Yet when she finally saw him in person, she realized that the media’s flattering praises for Shen Zhi simply couldn’t compare to the man himself. Just that face alone was enough to make her too intimidated to lift her head and look directly at him every day.
When Lu Jie brought Shiqi to Shen Zhi’s office, Shen Zhi wasn’t inside. Naturally, Lu Jie knew he should still be tied up outside.
Today, kindergarten had dismissed classes early on short notice, and the home nanny had accompanied Ji Ran out, so Shen Zhi had asked Lu Jie to go pick Shiqi up and bring him over.
The little fellow had been quite excited upon hearing he could go play at his dad’s office.
Standing inside the office now, looking at the expansive room with its floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows, the child showed little interest in the room’s decor, nor was his attention caught by the scenery outside the window.
Instead, he walked over to the desk and stared at the photo frame placed upon it.
There was only a single photo frame on Shen Zhi’s desk, taken when Shiqi turned one year old, showing Ji Ran holding Shiqi while Shen Zhi stood beside them.
A family of three, wrapped in such peaceful years.
“That’s a picture of me when I was little,” Shiqi pointed at the photo frame and said with a smile.
He smiled quietly as well. Lu Jie smiled along, stepped forward, and said, “Put your schoolbag down, Shiqi. Would you like something to eat?”
Shiqi looked up at him, “Uncle, it’s time for my fruit.”
Kindergarten provided fruit to the little ones in the afternoon, and Shiqi had already formed the habit, prompting him to speak up immediately when Lu Jie asked if he wanted a snack.
“Alright, I’ll go get some fruit for Shiqi, shall I?”
Employee benefits at HENGCHI Group’s headquarters were exceptional, featuring not just a cafeteria but also a dedicated lounge where staff could enjoy fruit, drinks, and various snacks.
Unexpectedly, Shiqi asked, “Uncle Lu, can I go with you?”
Assuming the boy was afraid of being left alone in the office, Lu Jie nodded and took Shiqi’s hand toward the elevator. The lounge wasn’t on this floor; it was one level down.
When they arrived, not many people were around, so Lu Jie guided Shiqi over to select some food.
Since it was summer, the fruit selection was quite rich, particularly watermelon, which came both sliced and as freshly squeezed juice.
“I want to eat mango.” Shiqi looked around, his eyes lingering back and forth between the watermelon and the mangoes before finally making his choice and pointing at the mangoes.
Lu Jie smiled and requested a portion of mango. The lounge had two staff members specifically assigned to prepare fruit.
Seeing Lu Jie bring over such a handsome little boy, they simply went ahead and cut an extra-large portion of mangoes. Lu Jie carried the plate over and sat down at a nearby table.
Actually, the company’s board of directors had originally voiced plenty of objections about setting up such a lounge here.
After all, this was the CBD core of the city, where every inch of land was worth a fortune, and carving out over a hundred square meters just to run a lounge like this seemed like a waste.
However, Shen Zhi had stood his ground.
Nowadays, when recruiting, one of HENGCHI Group’s major competitive advantages turned out to be the exceptionally good internal welfare of the company. After all, internet companies tended to be younger and trendier, and whenever the internet mentioned dream companies people wanted to work for, it was mostly those tech firms.
Yet HENGCHI Group, operating as an industrial enterprise, could now stand shoulder to shoulder with those dream companies.
Shiqi earnestly began eating the mango using a small fork. He was already skilled at using chopsticks, let alone a fork, so he used the tiny fork to spear a piece of mango and pop it into his mouth.
Lu Jie had initially been sitting next to him, but his phone rang, so he said softly, “Shiqi, keep eating here for a moment. Uncle is going outside to take a call.”
Since Shiqi still had food in his mouth and Mom had taught him that speaking with food in one’s mouth was impolite because it might spray onto others, he simply looked at Lu Jie with his big, round eyes and nodded earnestly.
Walking over to the doorway, Lu Jie felt entirely at ease because he would be able to see Shiqi the moment he stepped outside.
Before long, a few female employees walked in. They ordered a few cups of coffee and sat down at a nearby table, only to turn around and spot a little boy quietly eating fruit by himself at the adjacent table.
“Whose kid is this? Why is he here all alone?” A female employee wearing glasses looked left and right.
The others stared at Shiqi as well.
“Why is he so pretty? I want to steal him home.” A long-haired girl covered her mouth and whispered.
The bespectacled employee nodded in agreement, “And why is he so well-behaved, eating mangoes all by himself without crying or making a fuss?”
Another married employee nearby chimed in, “My son is his exact age, but the one at home literally cannot stop moving for a single second. Look how obedient this one is.”
The group had simply come over to relax, never expecting to run into such an extraordinarily pretty little boy.
If it were a grown-up handsome man, they might feel too shy to strike up a conversation, but seeing such a handsome and cute toddler sitting upright in his chair, earnestly eating mango piece by piece with a tiny fork—oh my goodness.
Everyone’s maternal instincts burst forth, and they genuinely wished they could steal him home.
So the bespectacled girl took the lead in asking, “Little friend, why are you all by yourself here?”
Shiqi had been eating attentively when he suddenly heard someone speaking to him. He turned his head, his dark, ink-like eyes looking at them with a hint of puzzlement.
That single look made the female employees nearby yearn to shriek out loud.
Those pure, lovely black eyes were round at that moment, closely resembling clear deer eyes. No wonder people said children’s eyes held the starlight.
After swallowing his bite of mango, Shiqi replied, “My uncle went outside to make a phone call.”
“Didn’t you come with your mom and dad?” the bespectacled girl asked with curiosity.
Shiqi thought for a moment, his voice soft, “My dad works here. Uncle brought me to find my dad.”
Accustomed to such an adorable child, the group took turns trying to coax him, asking why he wasn’t in kindergarten a moment later and whether he wanted anything else to eat a moment after that.
Until one of them asked with a smile, “How about Auntie takes you to find your dad?”
“Thank you, Auntie, but Uncle will take me to find my dad.” Shiqi remembered his teachers instructing them never to walk away with strangers, even though he didn’t think these aunties were bad people.
Unwilling to give up, the other person continued her curious questioning, “Then what is your dad’s name?”
Shiqi thought briefly—this seemed like something he was allowed to share.
Clutching the little fork in his hand, he answered earnestly, “My dad is called Shen Zhi.”
“Oh, Shen Zhi,” the other person smiled and nodded, yet the very next second, as she instinctively glanced at her colleague sitting beside her, she suddenly felt as though her tongue had been snatched away by a cat.
She opened her mouth, unable to utter a single word for a long time.
“Your dad’s name is Shen Zhi?” The long-haired female employee covered her mouth after speaking.
At that moment, a voice rang out: “Shiqi.”
The little boy whose name was called looked up to see Shen Zhi standing not far away, and immediately gave a little wave, “Daddy.”
Everyone else in the lounge stood up in unison to offer greetings.
“Good afternoon, President Shen.”
“President Shen.”
Shen Zhi gave a slight nod to the crowd, walked over to Shiqi, glanced at the mango that had already been mostly eaten on his plate, and asked attentively, “Do you want any more?”
“There’s too much of this, I can’t quite finish it.” Shiqi looked slightly troubled.
He had been taught from a young age not to waste food, but the auntie earlier had cut him an entire plateful, which was indeed too much.
Shen Zhi sat down in the chair opposite him, reached out to pull the plate in front of himself, and picked up the fork to begin eating the remaining mango at a leisurely pace.
The female employees nearby felt as though leaving would be awkward, and staying would be equally awkward.
So they all sat rigidly in their chairs, exchanging glances with one another.
Fortunately, after Shen Zhi finished the rest of the mango for Shiqi, he pointed at the plate and said, “Daddy helped you finish the rest, but you need to return the plate to the auntie over there by yourself.”
Shiqi nodded immediately.
He climbed down from his chair obediently, picked up the plate, and returned it to the staff member not far away. Shen Zhi walked over to the doorway to wait for him, and as soon as the little fellow finished returning the plate, he trotted swiftly to his side.
Holding Shiqi’s hand, Shen Zhi led him out of the lounge.
Although Shen Zhi came and went in a flash, it didn’t stop him from becoming the hot topic of conversation among the onlookers after he left.
“So that little kid just now was the big boss’s son.”
“You have to admit, he really looks like President Shen, especially those eyes—they look like they were carved out of the same mold.”
“Figures that good-looking parents wouldn’t produce an ugly child. I’ve seen photos of President Shen and his wife attending events; the two of them don’t lose out at all when standing next to entertainment celebrities.”
“Plus, President Shen raises his child so well—so obedient and sensible.”
Before long, what happened in the lounge began circulating within the company’s internal chat groups. Because Shen Zhi and Ji Ran were fiercely protective of Shiqi, his appearance had never been exposed to any media outlets.
The company employees were naturally curious about what the boss’s child looked like.
Curiosity was one thing, but no one dared actually run over to the executive office to gawk.
Shiqi followed Shen Zhi back to his office. Scans around the office revealed no toys suitable for him to play with, prompting Shen Zhi to furrow his brow slightly and look down at Shiqi: “Do you want to play a game with Daddy?”
Sitting on the sofa, the little fellow didn’t show overt excitement on his face, but his eyes had already given away his feelings.
So Shen Zhi retrieved his iPad. He knew Ji Ran wasn’t too fond of exposing Shiqi to electronic devices at such an early age; when Shiqi was home, he rarely got his hands on phones or tablets.
Therefore, Shen Zhi wouldn’t just toss a tablet at him to keep him busy either.
He opened a Sudoku app downloaded on the tablet. As mobile applications advanced further, probably anything a programmer could dream up was already built into existence.
This Sudoku app happened to be a project Ji Ran had primarily invested in—a little passion project of her own.
That was why Shen Zhi’s tablet had this mini-program downloaded on it.
However, with his current heavy workload, he barely had any time left to pass the time with Sudoku; this mini-game was actually his first time playing it. Since it was beginner Sudoku, it was exceptionally simple.
So he personally guided Shiqi through it.
While all parents believed their children were the smartest kids in the world, Shiqi genuinely belonged to that visibly high-IQ category. Whether at early education class or kindergarten, he was always the fastest learner.
And today, he shocked Shen Zhi once again.
When Shen Zhi explained the rules of Sudoku, Shiqi was slightly confused at first, but after Shen Zhi walked him through two puzzles, the little fellow seemed to grasp the underlying logic until he solved a puzzle entirely on his own.
Throughout this afternoon, the father and son spent hours playing Sudoku.
To Shiqi, this wasn’t a school test, but an interesting game—a game shared between him and his father.
“Do you like this?” Shen Zhi asked, tilting his head to look at the little fellow.
Shiqi nodded without the slightest hesitation. Tapping his small finger against the tablet screen, his voice milky and cute, “Daddy, let’s keep playing.”
He possessed a sharp sensitivity to numbers, as though it were innate.
Shen Zhi couldn’t help thinking of Ji Ran. The reason he had ever encountered Sudoku in the first place was due to Ji Ran’s influence, and Ji Ran herself was someone naturally gifted with numbers—so bright and sharp that she turned all her peers into mere background foliage.
While she stood out as the radiant pearl among that foliage.
As the little fellow’s fingers tapped back and forth across the computer screen, Shen Zhi reached out to gently stroke the top of his head, causing Shiqi to look up in mild confusion.
Shen Zhi chuckled softly, “You really are just like Mom.”
Like Mom?
Shiqi certainly understood the meaning of those words. He frequently heard people tell him that he resembled his mother, prompting him to ask in a soft voice, “Does Daddy love Mom very much?”
Despite being such a tiny person, he posed such a question with the solemn air of an adult.
Yet even under his son’s fixed gaze, Mr. Shen maintained his slightly aloof composure before finally giving a slight nod: “Daddy loves Mom very much.”
“So Daddy likes Shiqi too, right?” the little fellow stated without hesitation.
Since he looked like Mom, then when Daddy loved Mom, he would naturally like him too. The child managed to string together this logical relationship at such a tender age.
Even so, Shen Zhi was momentarily taken aback.
After a long pause, he said softly, “Shiqi, of course Daddy loves you. But not just because you look like Mom, but because you are Daddy’s child.”
Shen Zhi wasn’t skilled at expressing such tender sentiments, especially when facing Shiqi, despite loving his child just as deeply.
Yet he was even less inclined to let Shiqi harbor any misunderstandings at this moment.
He loved Shiqi because Shiqi was the child of him and Ranran.
When the two of them returned home that evening, Ji Ran had already arrived back. Stepping into the living room, Shiqi flew into Ji Ran’s arms—except that instead of picking him up like she usually did, today she merely gathered the little fellow into a warm embrace.
“Did Shiqi have fun at Daddy’s company today?” Ji Ran led him over to sit by the sofa.
He wasn’t wearing his schoolbag; Shen Zhi was holding it instead.
Shiqi nodded without hesitation and explained happily, “Mom, Daddy and I played a Sudoku game together today.”
Sudoku?
Ji Ran raised an eyebrow in surprise before looking up toward Shen Zhi.
Shen Zhi chuckled softly, “He actually plays really well.”
Ji Ran immediately grew interested and asked softly, “Do you like it, Shiqi?”
No parent dislikes seeing their child inherit their traits, and Ji Ran was no exception. She had always possessed a talent for Sudoku; if she hadn’t changed paths midway back then, she might not have entered investment banking, but instead pursued mathematical research.
Shiqi’s large eyes shone with amusement, and his rosy little face beamed with a smile as he replied with soft obedience, “I like it. Daddy said Mom plays this too.”
“Mhm, Mom was super impressive when she was little.” Ji Ran didn’t bother being modest this time.
Because she really was super impressive.
During dinner, Shiqi was still talking excitedly to Ji Ran about Sudoku. To him, this newly discovered interest had instantly eclipsed Transformers, capturing his entire attention.
Consequently, after his bath, tonight’s bedtime story transformed into a mother-son Sudoku gaming session.
Once the little fellow was finally lulled to sleep, Ji Ran returned to her bedroom. Shen Zhi had not yet emerged from the study, and only after she finished her shower did he push the door open and enter.
He looked at Ji Ran, whose hair was draped loosely over her shoulders and still half-dry. Even completely bare-faced, her skin remained delicate, her bright eyes clear and smiling. Time treated her with such gentle favor, leaving her as breathtakingly beautiful as ever.
Shen Zhi walked over, wrapped his arms gently around her from behind, and murmured, “Ranran.”
The ending of his voice drifted upward slightly, forming an arc wrapped in endless softness. Shen Zhi tended to be more aloof than gentle, but most of that gentleness was reserved for Ji Ran.
Ji Ran asked softly, “What is it?”
“Do you have something you want to tell me?” Shen Zhi’s lips brushed close to her ear, carrying a warm, moist breath.
Ji Ran widened her eyes slightly, then asked with mild astonishment, “How did you know?”
Shen Zhi had only been suspicious when she said that, but now he was completely certain. He murmured, “When Shiqi came back just now, you pulled back slightly when he lunged at you, and you didn’t pick him up.”
Normally, Ji Ran would never dodge when Shiqi launched himself at her, which meant she must have confirmed something this afternoon.
At last, Ji Ran said softly, “Ah Zhi, our Shiqi is going to have a little sister or a little brother.”
Though he had already guessed it in his heart, hearing Ji Ran state it out loud still stirred a unique wave of excitement within Shen Zhi. The two of them had always taken a natural approach toward having a second child, but Ji Ran hadn’t conceived for a long time.
Earlier, Ji Ran had even visited the hospital, where all test results came back completely normal, leaving even the doctor without any explanation.
Fortunately, they already had Shiqi, so the doctor had comforted Ji Ran by telling her to let nature take its course.
Ji Ran always felt that their bond with this little newcomer simply hadn’t arrived yet, so she patiently waited—only for that wait to stretch over a year.
Now that Shiqi was five years old, she had finally fallen pregnant once again.
Shen Zhi couldn’t help turning the person in his arms to face him. Lowering his gaze, the tenderness within his eyes rolled and surged like ocean waves before he bent down to kiss Ji Ran’s lips.
He had thought his happiness was already complete, but Shen Zhi realized just how wonderfully fate treated him.
He had always assumed he wasn’t someone favored by destiny, but now he understood how partial time had been to him.
During the first three months, Ji Ran kept a low profile and told no one. But after three months, her belly gradually began to show; given her slender figure, even the slightest bodily change was quite obvious.
So Ji Ran picked an evening to lie down in Shiqi’s bed and chat with him.
“Shiqi.” She looked down at the little fellow in her arms, who was gradually taking on the appearance of a young boy.
When the little fellow looked up at her, his big eyes were filled with lingering attachment—the exclusive, one-and-only reliance reserved for Mom.
Tilting her head with a smile, Ji Ran said softly, “Our Shiqi is going to be an older brother.”
Shiqi blinked, looking momentarily stunned. Resting her palm on the top of his head, Ji Ran continued gently, “There is a little baby inside Mom’s tummy, though Mom doesn’t know yet whether it’s a little sister or a little brother.”
Suddenly, Shiqi bolted upright, flipping back the thin quilt that had been covering them both.
Staring fixedly at Ji Ran’s tummy, Shiqi asked with profound fascination, “Mom, is a little sister already inside your tummy?”
At that moment, little Shiqi had automatically filtered out the “little brother” option, clearly favoring a little sister instead. Several of his kindergarten classmates had little sisters.
Sometimes when school let out, he would see other kids whose moms came to pick them up while carrying a little sister.
Shiqi envied that.
Knowing his strong curiosity, Ji Ran patiently nodded, “That’s right, the baby is already inside Mom’s tummy, but it’s not guaranteed to be a little sister, you know. So even if it’s a little brother, you’ll still love him, right?”
She worried that if a little brother was born later on, Shiqi might feel disappointed.
She hoped that whether it turned out to be a brother or a sister, Shiqi would love the child consistently.
Shiqi was truly a sensible little fellow. Although he desperately wanted a little sister, hearing Ji Ran put it that way, he nodded immediately: “I will. Whether it’s a little sister or a little brother, I’ll be a good big brother.”
Suddenly growing excited, the little fellow asked, “Mom, I’m going to be a big brother from now on?”
Ji Ran’s heart melted completely at his milky voice. She pulled the little fellow into her arms and rocked him gently, just like she used to do when he was still an infant.
“Even if our Shiqi is a big brother, you’re still Mom’s little darling.”
Ji Ran had read reports about how older children often showed strong rejection toward a second child at home, fearing their parents’ love would be stolen away.
Yet Shiqi showed no such emotional distress; upon learning the news, he remained so excited that he didn’t want to sleep for a long time.
Even when Shen Zhi walked in, he was still chatting animatedly with Ji Ran.
Ji Ran hadn’t seen him this energized in ages, so she didn’t force him to sleep, choosing instead to stay up and share in his joy.
Days of pregnancy weren’t particularly grueling, especially since Ji Ran had already been through it once. She hadn’t put work aside during her first pregnancy, and that was even truer this time around.
Ji Ran had advanced from Executive Director at Gaotong Securities to Managing Director. Whenever media interviews rolled around, she was invariably asked how she managed to balance career and family.
Yet successful women existed in this world, and not all of them walked single paths.
Many successfully possessed both a career and a family.
Ji Ran only took leave to rest at home when she reached her ninth month of pregnancy—though it was just stepping away from the office, as subordinates would still call her whenever issues arose.
She had to admit, both of her little darlings were considerate of her, choosing to be born during mild, pleasant weather.
At this moment, a warm breeze carrying a hint of spring blew in through the window. Half-reclining on the sofa, Ji Ran was reading a book. Dressed in a long gown, apart from her round belly, her limbs remained slender and graceful, entirely devoid of any swelling.
With her eyes lowered softly, her long hair rested gently against her delicate collarbone, veiling its lines.
Before long, Shiqi woke from his afternoon nap and scurried over to find her.
Shedding his shoes, the little fellow climbed onto the sofa and rested obediently and quietly against her shoulder. Just as Ji Ran was enjoying this cozy afternoon tranquility, a sudden light grunt escaped her lips.
Noticing instantly, Shiqi turned to look at her: “Mom, what’s wrong?”
Looking down at her own belly with a helpless yet amused smile, Ji Ran chuckled softly, “The little baby just moved.”
Shiqi widened his eyes immediately. He had previously greeted the baby through Mom’s belly, but he still found it magical now. The little fellow raised his hand cautiously, wanting to touch but hesitating out of caution.
Finally, he sought Ji Ran’s permission: “Mom, can I talk to the baby?”
Ji Ran smiled, “Of course you can.”
So Shiqi leaned in close to Ji Ran’s belly, speaking in an exaggeratedly loud voice as if afraid the baby wouldn’t hear: “Little Sister, I’m your big brother, did you hear me?”
Ji Ran was amused by his antics—how could the baby possibly hear him?
Yet the very next second, her belly shifted again. This time, the little fellow inside seemed to respond directly to Shiqi, rolling over repeatedly in a way that made Ji Ran look down in wonder.
Shiqi asked with immediate tension, “Mom, is Little Sister answering me?”
With that, he pressed his cheek gently against Ji Ran’s abdomen. The moment he felt his cheek brush lightly against something, Shiqi gasped in astonishment, opening his eyes wide with a cute expression of disbelief.
Just then, Shen Zhi walked in from outside. He had initially glanced into Shiqi’s room and, finding the resting boy missing, guessed that he must have woken up to look for Ji Ran.
Sure enough, he was right here.
“Daddy, Little Sister just greeted me, and she even touched my cheek.” Shiqi shared the discovery with Shen Zhi in wonder, as if having uncovered a new continent.
Shen Zhi knew he was referring to the fetal movements of the baby inside.
Even for him, having already experienced Shiqi, fetal movement remained such a magical and wondrous thing.
Still, Ji Ran prompted, “Shiqi, what if Mom gives birth to a little brother?”
Shiqi shook his head immediately: “No, it’s definitely a little sister. Mom, I’ve even thought of a name for Little Sister.”
At that, Ji Ran and Shen Zhi exchanged glances, both feeling a mixture of amusement. Shiqi was taking his role as a big brother quite seriously, having even prepared a name.
With rising interest, Ji Ran asked, “What name did you pick for Little Sister?”
“Cotton Candy,” Shiqi blurted out without missing a beat, clearly having thought of it long ago. He looked toward his parents for approval after speaking.
Shen Zhi smiled, “Why Cotton Candy?”
Tilting his little head, Shiqi answered with a touch of pride, “Because Little Sister is definitely very sweet.”
Ji Ran had always restricted Shiqi’s candy intake, so the sweetest thing in Shiqi’s memory was the cotton candy Grandpa had bought him once when they went out.
Extremely, extremely sweet.
Since cotton candy was so sweet, he wanted his sister to have that name.
“Daddy, do you like it?” Shiqi took the initiative to ask.
Shen Zhi nodded. Surprisingly, he actually liked it quite a bit.
Ji Ran, however, felt somewhat helpless and pointed out, “Little Sister isn’t something to eat, you know.”
“How about Mianmian?” Shen Zhi turned to look at Ji Ran. The sofa where she sat faced the floor-to-ceiling windows, catching the gentle sunlight that cast a warm, lingering halo over her entire figure.
He hoped the little one would be surrounded by an endless, flowing stream of love from the moment of birth.
Ji Ran nodded, agreeing that the name Mianmian sounded lovely. Then, the next second, she suddenly questioned, “Why are both of you so certain it’s a little sister?”
What if a little brother arrived instead—a little boy named Mianmian?
Yet this time, Shen Zhi replied without hesitation: “This time, Shiqi and I share the same thought. I also think it’s going to be a little sister.”
A month later, at ten o’clock at night, a little girl named Mianmian truly arrived in this world.
His and her Mianmian.
