His gaze was pure, and his tone was so sincere that it was genuinely pleasant to hear.

If anyone else had said this, Shen Mubai would have thought it was sarcasm, but coming from the male lead, she didn’t doubt it for a moment.

She glanced inside and asked, “Can I come in?”

Shen Mubai didn’t sense anything wrong, especially since what she was about to say next was very important.

Yu Jingchen hesitated for a moment, then apologized, “Sorry, Sister Xiaoxing, but there’s someone else in my room, so it might be a bit inconvenient.”

Only then did Shen Mubai remember that Director Wang, in an effort to save money, had rented double rooms.

As someone with strong connections, she had been given a private room, even if Director Wang might have grumbled about it inwardly.

Disappointed, she withdrew her gaze and asked, “Can you come a little closer, then?”

Yu Jingchen’s already thin face turned even redder.

After hesitating, he pursed his lips and moved closer.

Shen Mubai said, “I feel like it’s fate that we’re in the same crew.”

Then, in a conspiratorial tone, she added, “Would you like to be my godbrother? I think you’re really great.”

Yu Jingchen stared at her, completely stunned.

Shen Mubai thought she might have been too forward and was about to say something when she noticed the male lead lower his eyes.

He looked as if he’d been frightened, his face quickly paling, and his long, curly eyelashes trembled nervously.

He bit his lip slightly, seeming extremely troubled.

Shen Mubai was bewildered.

Then she saw the male lead muster up his courage and look up, saying, “Sorry, Sister Xiaoxing, I’m a bit tired. Can we do this some other time?”

Though confused, Shen Mubai nodded.

As the male lead hurriedly closed the door as if escaping from a dangerous situation, she felt wronged and asked the system, “Did I say something wrong?”

The system replied, “In the entertainment industry, the dirty private deals often involve people claiming each other as godparents or godchildren. He didn’t hit you, so you should count yourself lucky.”

Shen Mubai was speechless.

This misunderstanding had blown up, but it didn’t seem right to call him out now to explain.

So, she obediently returned to her room and called her agent, Li Hong, asking her to arrange for a more reliable assistant for Yu Jingchen.

Only then did she go to sleep, satisfied.

Since her scenes hadn’t come up yet, Shen Mubai slept until the sun was high in the sky.

As her assistant Xiaoguai helped her get dressed, she remarked, “The sun is just as strong as it was yesterday. Sister Xiaoxing, are you still going to the set?”

Shen Mubai, enjoying the fish and lean pork congee and pan-fried buns brought to her, squinted contentedly and mumbled, “Of course, I’m going. Didn’t my brother say I should act well?”

Hearing this, Xiaoguai couldn’t help but think, “Sister Xiaoxing, it’s not that we don’t want to help you, but your acting is really hard to watch. No matter how you look at it, when you’re on set, the cringe is palpable throughout the whole set.”

But she didn’t dare say that aloud, so she nodded and asked, “Shall I prepare some sunflower seeds for you?”

Having had too many sunflower seeds yesterday and nearly getting a sore throat, Shen Mubai quickly refused, “No, just bring me some pistachios.”

So, when they arrived at the set, while everyone else was hard at work filming, there was one person lounging on a chair under a sunshade, snacking on pistachios, and sipping milk tea.

Her relaxed demeanor made quite a few people green with envy.
