Chapter 407: Heard You Got Shelved (12)

Shen Mubai was bewildered.

“Isn’t it not my turn to film yet?”

Li Hong sighed and said, “The audience doesn’t care whether it’s your turn or not. They only believe what they see with their own eyes. You said you were on set to observe others’ acting, right? How’s that going?”

Shen Mubai thought for a moment.

“I don’t think I’ve learned much.”

Li Hong responded, “… President Liao told me to keep a close eye on you. You figure it out.”

Shen Mubai quickly changed the subject.

“Sister Hong, is it possible to request more food for the crew?”

Li Hong asked, “Why did you suddenly think of that?”

Feeling a bit embarrassed, Shen Mubai replied, “I noticed that Yu Jingchen doesn’t seem to be eating enough on set.”

Li Hong sighed, “…” Alright, this ‘ancestor’ really is concerned about that stand-in.

She let out another sigh, “Got it; I’ll talk to Director Wang about it.”

Shen Mubai added, “Make sure they add more chicken legs, please. Thanks, Sister Hong.”

Li Hong sighed again, “…I got it. I’ll handle the PR for the leaked footage, but you need to be more careful on set.”

After Li Hong hung up, Shen Mubai immediately told her assistant Xiaoguai to remove her chair, sunshade, and fan.

Xiaoguai was confused, “Sister Xiaoxing, are we heading back to the hotel?”

Shen Mubai shook her head, “No, go get me a notebook and a pen.”

Though puzzled, Xiaoguai obediently complied.

As a result, for the rest of the afternoon, the crew saw the notoriously bad actress diligently watching the filming, taking notes as she observed.

Wu Xueqing’s assistant sneered, “Just this afternoon, footage from the set was leaked, and now she’s trying to put on a show.”

Wu Xueqing smirked, “What’s the point? The audience will still criticize her.”

Her assistant grumbled, “Director Wang was really something, casting her as the second female lead. I bet she’ll ruin this whole drama. You should see the comments on Weibo—so many people are vowing not to watch it once it airs.”

Wu Xueqing was equally displeased.

As a popular star with an excellent reputation and following, she had agreed to take on ‘Immortal Path’ with the aim of securing a Best Actress nomination a few months down the line. The sudden appearance of Tang Xiaoxing made her resentful.

She couldn’t help but comment sarcastically, “Well, what can you do? Her sponsor’s no ordinary person.”

There were rumors that Tang Xiaoxing was being kept by someone powerful, but no one knew who it was.

People speculated that it had something to do with someone high up in Starshine.

While some in the entertainment industry insulted and looked down on her, most were actually jealous, as the resources she had access to were beyond what most could dream of.

The assistant was about to say more when she noticed someone approaching. Though reluctant, she smiled and greeted the person.

With Wu Xueqing’s status, she wouldn’t normally initiate conversation with Yu Jingchen, so she merely nodded, her expression barely concealing her arrogance and disdain.

Yu Jingchen smiled warmly and said softly, “Senior, I look forward to working with you in our upcoming scenes.”

Wu Xueqing knew that the handsome man in front of her was a new talent that Starshine had poached from Glory.

Unlike Zhang Hao, she didn’t overthink it; she was initially surprised but not overly concerned.

In the past, when she was new to the industry, she might have been tempted to chat him up.

But now, with her focus solely on fame and fortune, she simply responded perfunctorily.
