Chapter 452: Heard You Got Shelved (57)
In the following days, Shen Mubai kept finding ways to avoid Yu Jingchen.
Except for promotional events she absolutely had to attend, she would run away the moment she saw him.
At first, Yu Jingchen would frequently text and call her, and sometimes he would even stand outside her door for hours on end.
Shen Mubai initially felt soft-hearted, but every time she recalled that night, she steeled herself and pretended not to see or hear anything.
Yu Jingchen seemed to notice her avoidance and eventually stopped showing up in front of her.
Shen Mubai finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Her assistant, Xiaoguai, noticed the strange atmosphere between them and asked, “Sister Xiaoxing, did something happen between you and Brother Yu?”
She hesitated before adding, “Brother Yu is a good person. Maybe there’s just a misunderstanding between you two.”
Shen Mubai understood this reasoning, but this wasn’t something that could be resolved with just a few words.
So she brushed it off vaguely, “It’s nothing. I’ve just been feeling tired lately and don’t want to see anyone.”
Seeing her reaction, Xiaoguai decided not to press further.
Her manager, Li Hong, wasn’t as easily placated.
When Shen Mubai rejected every script and program offer, Li Hong expressed her dissatisfaction.
“I don’t care what happened between you and Yu Jingchen, but staying cooped up in your apartment all day isn’t the solution. You’re at the peak of your popularity right now. You’ll have to explain yourself to President Liao.”
Shen Mubai truly had no energy to deal with these things.
After all, in this world, her goal wasn’t to make this body famous.
Why waste so much effort?
But since this involved Tang Lengliao, the golden thigh, she could only say, “I understand, Sister Hong. I’ll explain it to my brother. I’m just taking a short break—it’s like a vacation for me.”
Shen Mubai had planned to throw a tantrum and act spoiled when facing Tang Lengliao, but surprisingly, he agreed without much fuss, making her almost doubt if she had called the wrong person.
While Shen Mubai was hiding in her apartment, indulging in her avoidance and self-imposed isolation, a guest arrived at the Starshine CEO’s office.
Tang Lengliao sat in his leather chair, fingers interlaced, and instructed his secretary, “Bring two cups of coffee.”
The secretary nodded knowingly and left the room.
Once the secretary was gone, Tang Lengliao’s cold gaze turned to the guest.
“Sit down.”
Yu Jingchen didn’t sit.
Instead, he looked directly at Tang Lengliao and said, “I wonder why President Liao asked me here today.”
Tang Lengliao tapped his desk and examined him with a sharp gaze.
“How should I address you? One of my company’s artists, or the young master the Xi family recently reclaimed?”
Yu Jingchen’s expression faltered slightly.
“President Liao is indeed well-informed.”
Tang Lengliao pulled a newspaper from his desk and tossed it over.
“Take a good look.”
Yu Jingchen’s eyes scanned the paper, and when he saw the photo on it, his voice remained calm.
“So this is why President Liao called me here?”
Tang Lengliao let out a cold laugh.
“If I hadn’t intercepted it, this entertainment news would’ve been plastered across every major headline days ago.” His gaze turned sharp.
“Stay away from her.”
Yu Jingchen chuckled softly.
Tang Lengliao frowned.
“What’s so funny?”
The smile faded from Yu Jingchen’s refined and handsome face.
He looked directly at the man in front of him and said, “I’m just curious: since when did President Liao start caring so much about his sister?”
Tang Lengliao’s expression turned icy.
“Yu Jingchen, your initial goal in approaching her was to climb the social ladder and become famous. Now you’re already a popular star and hold the identity of the Xi family’s young master. What more could you possibly want?”
