Chapter 453: Heard You Got Shelved (58)

Yu Jingchen looked at him expressionlessly and said, “The matters between Sister Xiaoxing and me aren’t something President Liao has the right to interfere with.”

Tang Lengliao was about to say something when the secretary came in with freshly brewed coffee.

After she left, he resumed speaking, “I’ve reviewed all your records since childhood. In the orphanage, you already knew how to use your advantages and disguise yourself to avoid beatings and bullying. Whether in school or in society, you’ve always known how to gain others’ favor and sympathy.”

He looked up with sharp, icy eyes.

“And I also know that even if Starshine hadn’t recruited you back then, you would have found a way to escape your circumstances and turn the tide.”

Faced with this analysis and dissection, Yu Jingchen didn’t deny it.

His tone remained calm as he said, “I’ve known since I was a child that if you want something, you have to fight for it yourself, even if it means using underhanded methods.”

Hearing this, Tang Lengliao frowned slightly before continuing, “Then do you know that when Xiaoxing asked me to bring you into Starshine, it was only because she saw you as a substitute for Li Yunze?”

Yu Jingchen’s eyes darkened, and beneath his calm exterior was an emotion called jealousy.

“I know.”

Seeing his expression, Tang Lengliao’s gaze turned colder.

“Since you know, why are you still clinging to her?”

Yu Jingchen chuckled softly.

“President Liao, don’t you already know the answer? Why bother asking me?”

Tang Lengliao’s fingers turned pale from the force of his grip as he said coldly, “You’re not suitable for her.”

Yu Jingchen’s gaze turned cold.

“Matters of the heart—no matter if you’re her blood relative—you’re overstepping your boundaries, don’t you think?”

Suppressing the emotions rising in his chest, Tang Lengliao knocked on the table and said, “I know it was you who orchestrated Li Yunze’s and his manager’s current downfall, but that doesn’t mean I’ll approve of you because of it. Besides, Xiaoxing is avoiding you now—doesn’t that prove something?”

Yu Jingchen’s expression froze momentarily before he spoke with certainty, “Sister Xiaoxing wouldn’t be that cruel to me.”

Tang Lengliao let out a cold laugh.

“She’s always been soft-hearted and naive; otherwise, she wouldn’t have been deceived by your appearance until now.”

Yu Jingchen countered sarcastically, “Then what about President Liao? What did you do in the past? Why pretend to care about her now?”

The words Tang Lengliao was about to speak got stuck in his throat, and his face turned extremely grim.

“Yu Jingchen, can you swear that when you first approached her, you had no ulterior motives?”

Yu Jingchen curled his lips into a faint smile.

“Just as President Liao said, if I wanted to turn things around, it wouldn’t have been difficult for me. Starshine recruiting me was just me going along with the situation—it was merely a change of venue.”

Tang Lengliao didn’t believe his nonsense for a second.

A cold sneer formed on his lips.

“Fine. If I told you that for the next three years, you can’t rely on any help from the Xi family and must reach the pinnacle of the entertainment industry purely on your own ability, would you be able to do it?”

His sharp gaze bore into Yu Jingchen.

“If you can do that, I won’t interfere with you.”

He understood perfectly well what kind of person Yu Jingchen was.

This was a deal heavily stacked against him.

With his personality, Yu Jingchen would never sacrifice wealth, fame, or his bright future for the sake of love.

And no matter how capable Yu Jingchen was, the entertainment industry was a murky place.

Without powerful backing, every step was an uphill battle.

Tang Lengliao’s goal was clear: to force Yu Jingchen to back off on his own.
